What works
Without any winetricks: nothing. It will install, but not start.
What does not
Nearly all.
What was not tested
No chance do test it.
Additional Comments
You have to use Dan Kegels winetricks to get a chance to make it work. See also the recommendations below.
Without this there will be no chance to start it. If it works for you, please report new testing results.
Please hold in mind the rating criterias: an application with crashes on startup or normal use is garbage and nothing else. Thanks!
WARNING
This version is not really for productive work. Use native clientes like Pidgin, Kopete or so instead.

Chat confirmed to work on Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Edition
by BogdanV on Tuesday May 18th 2010, 11:06
Well, I was watching YM!'s compatibility progress in wine for quite some time.
The only time someone mentioned he got Yahoo! working was for Messenger 8, using winetricks.
Anyway, here's what I did to get it running :
-installed ies4linux with --no-gui option in terminal
-ran winetricks and installed :
corefonts
comctl32
ie6
msxml3
riched30
tahoma
native_oleaut32
vcrun2005
Afterwards, it might happen once in a while that Yahoo! fails to log you in. Its built-in diagnostic tool also seems to time-out.
Before going further, I have to tell you that in my case, in order to access the top menu buttons (right under the title bar), I had to press ALT and navigate with the keyboard.
It doesn't seem to react to mouse clicks !
The login problem seems to be solved by going into Messenger -> Connection Preferences and selecting "Connect via a proxy server".
Then check HTTP proxy (NOT socks).
As far as I've checked, emoticons function properly, and text appears clearly in the chat-box.
The only downside with regards to writing text, is the fact that what you type in your text box appears hidden in black.
It shows right though in the chat box (after you hit enter).
Buzz also works, every basic thing seems to work.
Audio doesn't work (no devices detected). Probably webcams also don't work.
I haven't tested file transfers yet, but I think it should work.
Embedded youtube links will work depending on how flash works in ie6, so I can't vouch for that (flash crashed rundll32 in wine for me).
I hope it works for anyone who's reading this.
Post back if you have any problems/questions !
