Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)

What works

- Installation from hard drive runs pretty fine.

- Updating the game up to 2.65.2 works fine

- Movies, quest, main menu and playing a long game work.

- Multiplayer works

- Launching the game with Win XP compatibility works fine.

What does not

- Installation from disks: the installer asks for the second cd, but doesn't recognize it.

- Launching the game with Win Vista compatibility doesn't work

What was not tested
-

Additional Comments

I have DirectX 9.1c installed, hence only GOLD rating. I didn't check if it is required, anyway.

Important: surprisingly, the activation of the game runs just fine, without doing the tricks i suggested in my previous evaluation of the game.

HOWTO and TIPS

### Installation ###

Installation from DVDs does not work (It does not ask for second disk, up until now)

Howto:
Copy both the DVDs onto the same directory tree on your personal system.
Launch installation from that directory, and enjoy Sacred 2.

### Activation ###

You may encounter problems while activating Sacred 2 Gold Edition: the activation may hang on several minutes and then fail, or the game may be activated and still ask for licence activation.

Howto:
Verify that you have read/write/execute permissions onto all the directories the game uses, because the activation needs to create several files in your local file system. Then execute the game always from the local directory of sacred:

cd $HOME/.wine/drive_c/Programs/Deep Silver/Sacred 2 - Gold/system
wine ./sacred2.exe

Remember that you can activate the game even manually, this way should always work.

(Note: for me there haven't been any issue in Securom ACTIVATION since the 1.2 version of wine)

### Improve Poor Graphic Performance  ###

Some users observed that on certain platforms, disabling Physx helps improving performance.

Another trick is to Locate the Directory: /home/your_user_account/.wine/drive_c/users/your_user_account/Local Settings/Applications/Ascaron Entertainment/Sacred 2
Create a NEW file named <optionsCustom.txt> and write these lines:

settings.enableMobilitySupport = 0
settings.usePhysHW = 1

Save and quit.

### Get Audio Working ###

Patched Version of Sacred 2.64.0, or even the game from the dvd box itself, may encounter Audio Glitches or complete absence of Audio.

Fix: (works with both 32 and 64 bit architectures)

Open Configure Wine and select the tab named "Libraries".

Set an override for the library openal32, and select from the Modify Menu the entry Native then Builtin.

OR

Put DIIOverrides key for openal32 to native and native only. (Anders Erik Hägg

### Get Video Working ###

There should not be any graphic issue with current versions of wine.

Anyway, there are some Game (not Wine) specific solution to some graphic problems.

Do not hesitate to post problems you encounter: common solutions would then be added.

### Avoiding Crashes ###

Ascaron released a tool that helps in crash avoidance: Sacred 2 - Cleanup Utility

### Directx9c - (Obsolete) ###

Important:What Follows is no more needed for newer Versions of Wine. It has been kept for Completeness and old versions users.

You need to copy a native d3dx9_36.dll to your $HOME/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/ directory. You may download it from here or get it from an existing Windows installation.

If you still face troubles you may have to turn on FBO. To do so, open registry (wine regedit) and add the following String-Value: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3d\OffscreenRenderingMode and set it to "FBO" (without the "").

If the game still doesn't run you got the same problem as me, and probably a ATi graphics card, and/or a 64 bit system.

Note

MacOSX 10.6.3, MacBook Pro 4GB 2.53 GHz:

nv4_disp.dll     from BOOTCAMP copied
NVIDIA Physix from BOOCAMP copied
MobilityMod     install failed
Mono installed (mono22 from wiretricks (Mac) did not work) afterwards Mono 2.6.3 from www.go-mono.com
Direct3D via wiretricks - changed console output (more) but didn't help completely

Copied working Sacred2 folder from BOOTCAMP - no luck
vcrun2005 installed - no change (fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT" (8.0.50727.4053)
vcrun2005sp1 (the same)
vcrun2008 (the same)
vcrun2008sp1 (the same)

Also Physix problems but installation of the physix software from nvidia fails.

Poor performance on Nvidia Geforce 8300
by Raffaele on Wednesday November 24th 2010, 8:18
Game graphic has not artifacts but the performance (with very low settings) are very, very poor (for me is silver) and make the game unplayable (nvidia pysix? installed). Some trick to improve it? [In windows works fine]

[ Update ] Crashes on StartUp . Solution
by Stanislav Oskolkov on Monday October 25th 2010, 3:13
// Remember: you must backup 'system.reg' and 'user.reg' files before

Try delete 'system.reg' and 'user.reg' in '.wine' folder ( '~/home/bomba/.wine' for me)
OR
Try delete all audio strings (ALSA and other) in 'system.reg' and 'user.reg' if you have any special settings for your applications in Wine.

Then Wine will restore options to default values.
Good Luck!

I think, you need try another audio settings and try next tip:

securom activation fails (v2.64 or higher)
by James March on Thursday April 1st 2010, 6:27
Online Securom DFA activation:

works for any of the original Sacred 2 versions,
inlcuding activation after patching to latest 2.43

after installing you have to register the addon-key again
also in order to 'NOT' start Sacred 2 Ice&Blood in Demo-Mode:

however, activation after installing the addon would always fail,

either Sacred2/wine hangs up during the process,

or if i can make it through the activation, it would report
"activation successful" but after each restart,
the changes won't be saved and sacred asks for securom activation again..

wine 1.1.41
(tested with Sacred 2 v 2.43 and Ice&Blood/Gold v2.64 , 2.65.1 and 2.65.2)

the reported securom version for v2.65.1 is:
Securom 7.41.0004
Securom SLL (for 7.40.9)
Securom PA 1.0.1.11

reported version for sacred 2 without addon installed is lower than 2.40.. (i think 2.37.xx to 2.39.xx)
there, the activation-application won't hang, and activation would be permanent and successful after relaunch.

were anyone of you able to successfully activate Sacred 2 Gold (meaning any version of Ice & Blood installed) ?

Just noticed that in singleplayer, the chars are NOT saved before crashing... hopefully there is a way to fix this problem.
