HOWTO

Sound:

MMDEVAPI.dll must be set to disabled in winecfg.
Hardware Acceleration: Full
Default Sample Rate: 48000

Video:

Use winetricks to install directx9.
wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks d3dx9

Default wine settings work, but artifacts are present.

Nvidia artifact fix:

Disable "DynamicTwinView" in xorg.conf (needed to enable anti-aliasing in-game).
nvidia-xconfig --no-dynamic-twinview

Set wine registry entries for 1.1.41:
sh winetricks ddr=opengl multisampling=enabled orm=backbuffer

In-game video options:
Shadows = Off
Anti-Aliasing = 2x or higher

Doesn't run on ATI
by Bob on Sunday March 13th 2011, 16:44
On ATI the game will not run, instead it just shows a dialog box:

Unable to start.
Hardware based instancing required.
Please ensure system has current video drivers.

It's probably related to one of these messages on the console:

fixme:d3d:swapchain_init Add OpenGL context recreation support to context_validate_onscreen_formats
fixme:d3d:debug_d3dformat Unrecognized 0x54534e49 (as fourcc: INST) WINED3DFORMAT!
fixme:d3d:wined3d_get_format Can't find format unrecognized (0x54534e49) in the format lookup table

Supreme Commander 2 not playable.
by Uli on Tuesday November 16th 2010, 0:39
Hello there.

I've installed Supreme Commander 2, DirectX9 and disabled the Library.
The game starts just fine but whenever I start a Game, let it be Skirmish or Campaign, the game crashes.
I don't get a lot of interesting console output. Just:

fixme:d3d:debug_d3dformat Unrecognized 1280070990 (as fourcc: NULL) WINED3DFORMAT!
fixme:d3d:getFormatDescEntry Can't find format unrecognized(1280070990) in the format lookup table
fixme:faultrep:ReportFault 0xd09d890 0x0 stub

Does anyone know how to get this running?

P.S. I'm using Suse Linux 11.3 and Wine 1.2.1

UI rendering issue

UI flickering a lot.. I'm seeing black most of the time but the flickering froze up as I took the screenshot.

More weird rendering issues
by Brad Cable on Tuesday March 23rd 2010, 19:59
So I just played my first naval combat mission, and the water is really jacked up. This is really distracting because it flickers (like a 100 times larger version of the NVIDIA artifacts bug).

Hopefully these illustrate the problem enough, and that it's another config issue that I missed in the setup. I've tried turning the water to high, medium, and low, I've messed with the anistropic filtering settings and I'm still having issues.

Thanks!

Weird rendering issues
by Brad Cable on Friday March 19th 2010, 19:25
Yesterday I installed the game and then had to run the audio fix and the NVIDIA artifacts fix to get it to work properly, then it ran just fine. I then went through the first two levels of the tutorial.

Today, I load up the game and the UI and everything works just fine, but when it gets into the game the screen is completely black... except the UI:

bcable.net/stuff/wine/supcom2/07.png
bcable.net/stuff/wine/supcom2/08.png
bcable.net/stuff/wine/supcom2/09.png

I have rerun the video fixes and nothing seems to be fixing it... the options for the game are identical to what they were yesterday (everything on high, 2x antialiasing).

Any ideas?

Thanks!
-Brad

by Aleksander Mischenko on Saturday March 6th 2010, 4:35
if you are using pulseaudio without alsa
put tick on oss in winecfg and use padsp wine SC.exe
