ingame mouse still doesn't work
by Stefan Pappalardo on Tuesday July 31st 2012, 15:36
I tried wine 1.3.26 and 1.5.9 with and without winetricks dinput8. But the ingame mouse only moves about 40 degrees left (not right).

I also tried MouseWarpOverride = force and enable. But no improvement.

I use Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit).

Any idea?

Do you mean that native dinput yields Windows-like performance?

Mouse problems
by Grundik on Monday April 2nd 2012, 11:08
MouseWarpOverride is not working with dinput8.dll from directx. So application cannot grab mouse => game unplayable (but performance is very good even on ultra-high settings).

Using wine's implementation of dinput8 causes grave performance issues, making game unplayable too.

I'm using xorg 1.12, nvidia GTS 450 with latest drivers. That behavior exists at least with wine versions 1.2.3, 1.3.25, 1.4, 1.5, 1.5.1.

mouse problem
by Julian Ospald on Sunday October 10th 2010, 6:50
Tried using native dinput but mouse selection in menus for example doesnt work. Plus I can't apply the patch to latest wine.

This is crap, cause on Windows its even worse. Keeps crashing all the time.

Doesn't start anymore
by Tibi on Monday September 13th 2010, 12:02
I'm using Wine 1.3.2 on Ubuntu 10.04.
The installation didn't work for me so I just copied it over from a Windows volume. It worked all nice & smooth, I created a character, played for a while, saved the game then exited. But after this the game would always crash after the "Press Any Key" screen with this message:

General protection fault!

History: Address = 0x7b837d52 (filename not found) [in C:\windows\system32\KERNEL32.dll]
Address = 6d349dc8 (filename not found) [in C:\windows\system32\msvcr80.dll]
Address = 6d3464d9 (filename not found) [in C:\windows\system32\msvcr80.dll]

It seems that the game only runs if there are no savegame files made.
I should also probably mention that I did have the mouse issue.

Intro video freeze
by Lukas Barth on Wednesday July 21st 2010, 16:25
I did all the stuff to fix the mouse problem (installing directx9, using native dinput8, patching wine...), but for me the intro video (after you created your character...) just freezes with the first frame. I can hear the music playing, but nothing moves (and noone starts talking, I guess that's what should happen in that movie...).

Does someone know this problem?

mouse problems
by Nyulas Kalman on Monday July 19th 2010, 4:21
I'm using wine-1.2-rc5 on Gentoo 64bit system.
Installed the game, pached.
A temporary solution for mouse problem, is:
Go to [Install dir]/Mass Effect/BioGame/Config
Edit the file DefaultInput.ini
Set the variables:
MoveForwardSpeed and MoveStrafeSpeed to higher value.

I setted them to 4800, and the game is playeble. It's not the true solution, but at least it's playable.
