Wine Version1.5.28
Maintainers of this version:
Description
Digital distribution version from Good Old Games , presumably patched to the latest version.
Old test results
The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.

What works
Installation works fine, a few artifacts with text rendering, but nothing really huge.

Sound appears to work very good, no choppiness or other problems.

What does not

Running the game.

Initially, the game complained of a lacking "msvcp60.dll", so I used winetricks to install vcrun6.

Then I was greeted by a black screen, but with wotking sound (and presumably controls, since using ESC to get out of logos etc at the beginning of the game worked. However, the screen remains black. From what I gather, this is a known bug of other versions, but people have been solving it by using a NOCD patch - and this version is supposedly already patched.

What was not tested
Playing the game

Solution for black menu problem
by Boris on Wednesday May 25th 2011, 3:00
After following the no-cd trick, I still had the problem with absolutely black menus, and no mouse cursor visible (though it was possible to click on things). I solved it by changing from 16bit resolution to 32bit resolution. Since menus were unusable, instead of changing it in-game, I used a hex editor to edit Config.dat file in "Syberia Saves" folder. At the offset 10 there is a single byte which is intially 0x10. That byte should be changed to 0x20.

I hope it helps someone

No sound in cutscenes
by Elmo on Tuesday April 5th 2011, 2:12
I have a double pack from eu-adventureshop.gamesplanet.com, was cheaper :)

I had to use the crack, install MVCP60 and finally dsound to get any sound at all (there was a small glitch at the start of the logo video). But now there's no sound in the videos. Then I tried installing directx9, as someone had for syberia2. Now the sounds are as before installing dsound: Only glitches at the start of videos and no ingame sounds (including the start menu). I'd be satisfied if I oculd view the videos separately, but VLC didn't recognize the format of the .syb files.

Will try reinstalling in a new prefix.

taskmgr will help you
by Per Johansson on Sunday January 2nd 2011, 9:23
After you launch Syberia and get the black screen, run wine taskmgr and double click on Syberia to switch to it. The game will now display, no cracks needed (in fact, those didn't work for me).

Still needs a virtual desktop though, at least on OS X (using XQuartz)

Registry key hack no longer works in 1.3.9
by Ryan Chartier on Sunday December 26th 2010, 17:01
I'm running 1.3.9 and I'm having the exact problem that the registry key hack is supposed to fix. However, in both my reinstall the key either didn't exist or was already set to disabled.

In terminal the following error keeps getting repeated over and over and over again.

fixme:d3d:context_check_fbo_status Location SFLAG_INTEXTURE (0x40).
fixme:d3d:context_check_fbo_status Color attachment 0: (0x1c9990) WINED3DFMT_B5G6R5_UNORM 800x600
fixme:d3d:context_check_fbo_status Depth attachment: (0x1cb088) WINED3DFMT_S1_UINT_D15_UNORM 800x600
err:d3d_draw:drawStridedSlow >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_FRAMEBUFFER_OPERATION (0x506) from glEnd and previous calls @ drawprim.c / 299
fixme:d3d:context_check_fbo_status FBO status GL_FRAMEBUFFER_UNSUPPORTED (0x8cdd)

I assume it has something to do with how direct 3d has changed in later versions. I'm not sure how to fix it, but doesn't look like it should be that hard to fix. Using Ubuntu 10.04.

Unplayable :(
by Gergely Fazekas on Sunday July 18th 2010, 4:30
I used the no-cd crack to solve the black screen problem, but the menu is messed up (where there is supposedly be text like "New Game" etc, there is only black), I can hit the buttons and start the game, but there is no mouse pointer and it's generally unresponsive to clicks or anything. (Intro video works though)

Ubuntu 10.04, Dell Latitude D610 (with Intel 915GM)

Black screen issue
by GyB on Sunday March 28th 2010, 10:19
I was quite disappointed that my freshly purchased game is not working in Wine. There are so many test results here that rated the game Gold. One of the comments mentioned this black screen issue and that it may be related to some copy-protection.
I was sceptical: I bought the game from GoG, they always offer their games without DRM.
However, THERE IS a no-cd patch that can be applied to the GoG version: look for the Collector's Edition of the game on GCW. With that "patch" the game is playable.
If I had known that before I submitted my test result, the rating wouldn't be Garbage.
