Digital distribution version from Good Old Games , presumably patched to the latest version.
Old test results
The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)
The game, at least up to Barrockstadt. I needed few tweaks, hence the Gold rating.
What does not
What was not tested
The game after Barrockstadt.
I do not know if it is a problem of the GoG version or of wine, but I needed to use gamecopyworld no-cd crack for Syberia Collector's Edition (it is listed in the Syberia 2 page).
So, I used winetricks to install vcrun6 and setting win98. The latter is not needed but makes the game save in its folder.
$ winetricks vcrun6 win98
The gamecopyworld crack replaces Syberia/Dlls/Syberia.dll and Syberia/Syberia.exe; without it the game hangs with a black screen.
Finally you need to rename few videos. Otherwise the game will ask for a CD and hang when they are needed:
$ cd Syberia/Video
$ mv ANC10_hansanna.syb c10_hansanna.syb
$ mv ANC2_hansannab.syb c2_hansannab.syb
$ mv ANC5_hansanna.syb c5_hansanna.syb
Solution for black menu problem
by Boris on Wednesday May 25th 2011, 3:00
After following the no-cd trick, I still had the problem with absolutely black menus, and no mouse cursor visible (though it was possible to click on things). I solved it by changing from 16bit resolution to 32bit resolution. Since menus were unusable, instead of changing it in-game, I used a hex editor to edit Config.dat file in "Syberia Saves" folder. At the offset 10 there is a single byte which is intially 0x10. That byte should be changed to 0x20.
No sound in cutscenes
by Elmo on Tuesday April 5th 2011, 2:12
I have a double pack from eu-adventureshop.gamesplanet.com, was cheaper :)
I had to use the crack, install MVCP60 and finally dsound to get any sound at all (there was a small glitch at the start of the logo video). But now there's no sound in the videos. Then I tried installing directx9, as someone had for syberia2. Now the sounds are as before installing dsound: Only glitches at the start of videos and no ingame sounds (including the start menu). I'd be satisfied if I oculd view the videos separately, but VLC didn't recognize the format of the .syb files.

I used the no-cd crack to solve the black screen problem, but the menu is messed up (where there is supposedly be text like "New Game" etc, there is only black), I can hit the buttons and start the game, but there is no mouse pointer and it's generally unresponsive to clicks or anything. (Intro video works though)

Black screen issue
by GyB on Sunday March 28th 2010, 10:19
I was quite disappointed that my freshly purchased game is not working in Wine. There are so many test results here that rated the game Gold. One of the comments mentioned this black screen issue and that it may be related to some copy-protection.
I was sceptical: I bought the game from GoG, they always offer their games without DRM.
However, THERE IS a no-cd patch that can be applied to the GoG version: look for the Collector's Edition of the game on GCW. With that "patch" the game is playable.
If I had known that before I submitted my test result, the rating wouldn't be Garbage.
