how to get Wine to recognize the GPS?

I have done the symbolic link thing
"ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 ~/.wine/dosdevices/com1"
but mapsource (or wine or both) still won't recognize the device (Etrex Vista HCx). Any help is greatly appreciated.
