Installation Instructions

With a fresh Wine prefix, do:

winetricks dotnet20 ie7 glsl-enable

Then install the game as normal.

Game update fails

The game update may fail, sometimes several times, simply click 'update' again to resume from where you left off, and it will eventually finish.

To work around this, the game data may also be copied over from a working Windows installation.

Game freezes after last update of NFSW
by Nicolas Krzywinski on Wednesday April 24th 2013, 15:03
After last update of NFSW I encounter freezes of the game at random situations and after a random time. Sometimes I can play for hours, sometimes it freezes only a few minutes after starting.
It does not matter of being in a race or in the free world or in the safehouse, nor does it matter of leaving the game alone or using it.

The nfsw.exe process mostly is a zombie then, but in rare cases it is alive but with high cpu load. In the latter case wine can be closed via Alt+F4.

This are the last output lines after it freezed into zombie currently:
fixme:dinput:LinuxInputEffectImpl_Download Could not upload effect. Assuming a disconnected device 146 "Das Argument ist ungültig".

Just to emphasize: prior it worked without a problem and without restrictions!

Any tips?

Any other way to download the game data?
by Franklin Weng on Tuesday March 12th 2013, 8:38
I could launch the login program. After login, it showed that I have 1.1G to download. However, every time it would pop up a error message dialog after download maybe about 10MB data. I never succeeded when upgrading wine to 1.5.25. I believe that it may work well if I can download the data from somewhere else. Could anyone please tell me where I can download it?

Thanks.

Working on Ubuntu 12.10
by viphybs on Sunday November 18th 2012, 13:01
Recipe that worked for me in Ubuntu 12.10 with POL 4.1.8 and Wine 1.4.1 is dotnet20, mono26 and running command runas /user:[hostname]\administrator to exec before running the program. The command is necessary to run program as administrator to avoid update error. Enjoy!

Controllers
by Adam Miloshevsky on Saturday November 10th 2012, 22:27
Is there any way to get an Xbox 360 controller to work? I know it works without a problem in Windows, but it just doesn't work under WINE. Anybody have a clue?

not working anymore in wine 1.5.15
by Michael Kaufmann on Monday October 15th 2012, 8:06
two days ago, my NFS:World worked perfectly, but since the update to wine 1.5.15, the game-launcher exits with an error.

Installed wine 1.4 made the game work again, in my Ubuntu 10.10 with self-compiled wine 1.5.13 it still works.
Some days ago, with wine 1.5.14 it also worked, but now with wine 1.5.15 it doesn't.

Shall I post the whole error report?

NFS World crashes even under wine 1.4.1
by Ursan Marius Bogdan on Wednesday August 1st 2012, 1:33
I have started to notice this since a few weeks ago; sometimes during game events the game crashes with the following error:

fixme:dbghelp:elf_search_auxv can't find symbol in module
fixme:dbghelp:MiniDumpWriteDump NIY MiniDumpWithDataSegs
fixme:faultrep:ReportFault 0x33d7a8 0x0 stub
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0xb74e2ce9
wine client error:54: write: Destination address required

Is anyone beside me getting this ?

"You said GameLauncher.exe was updated and then failed. Did you try downloading the current version of the installer from world.needforspeed.com, and use that instead? (If the current installer is used, there should be no need to update the launcher.)"

Yes, i did a reinstall of the game with the installer from world.needforspeed.com and after i accept the license the game throws an error with an windows prompt with "send" or "don`t send".

Lets see wha will happen in the next wine version. Now i have 1.5.5.

If the game launchers text box is graphically glitched or you are unable to accept the terms of service due to the window displaying incorrectly install gdiplus through winetricks gdiplus

How to run NFS world
by Johnny CookingFat on Sunday July 10th 2011, 12:14
My recipe how to run this game is:
1. By winetricks install corefonts,d3dx9_*,vcrun2008,mono26 then install game.
2. Copy downloaded game data from Windows pc to directory which you set in installation.
3. Enjoy game :)

There are two problems with GameLauncher.exe:
1.GameLauncher.exe very often slows down and is imposible to login, so kill wine proceses and try it again.
2.GameLauncher can be started only once, then writes "There has been an error starting the application. please contact Customer Support if the problem persists.". So detele "/home/jano/.wine/drive_c/users/jano/Local Settings/Application Data/Electronic Arts Inc" directory and all files in it.

can't autoupdate when using mono
by Dan Kegel on Tuesday July 5th 2011, 15:10
I had the game running fine with mono, but now that the game
wants to update itself, mono is unhappy:

Unhandled Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot call Invoke or BeginInvoke on a control until the window handle is created

A fresh installation with the updated 'winetricks nfsword_mono'
made the problem go away. (They update the game so often that
I had to update winetricks to use the current version first.)

NFS Word launches successfully but hangs on race start.
by Evilence on Sunday May 15th 2011, 12:19
I can confirm that post above - NFS world could be launched with ie7 and dotnet 2.
It has some issues with downloading and updating game itself, however after few tries game could be downloaded.

It launches without any issues, and allows to crete or select driver profile.
However when player presses "Enter world" game hangs.

wine log is here:
