This is how to install it:

1. Install only the game, cancel VC Runtime, cancel .NET and cancel DirectX
2. winetricks winxp dotnet20 d3dx9 vcrun2005 vcrun2005sp1
3. Go to windows/system32 and remove: msvcr80.dll
4. Go to Porgram Files/Paradox Interactive/Victoria 2/ and remove lua51.dll and lua5.1.dll
5. Download 
http://code.google.com/p/luaforwindows/downloads/detail?name=LuaForWindows_v5.1.4-40.exe&can=2 and install it with wine.
6. Run wine regedit and create these keys/vales: (this should fix the Loading Flags problem.)
	In HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D/
		DirectDrawRenderer to "opengl"
		OffscreenRenderingMode to "backbuffer"
		PixelShaderMode to "enabled"
		VideoMemorySize to the size of your video memory (e.g. "512")
	In HKCU/Software/Wine/DirectSound/
		MaxShadowSize to "0"

7. wineboot
8. Run the game with: wine v2game.exe

A House Divided

Has anyone managed to get this game to run on A House Divided? After applying the update, I always get this error:

I can run other Paradox games, but not this one

Victoria 2 is the first Paradox game I haven't been able to get running. I'm running Natty x86-64 with wine 1.3.15. I've followed the various directions above.

No matter what I do, v2game.exe crashes. I've pasted a snippet of the warn+all console output below. What debugging steps can I take? Are there specific debug channels that would be useful?

Fix for fixme:quartz errors

I couldn't get past the loading video because of an error with lots of:
fixme:quartz:parse_header Not a valid header: ff:ff

followed by a stack trace.

Fix is to go into settings.txt in the Victoria 2 directory and set master_volume to '-1' which disables the sound... obviously no sound isn't ideal, but I haven't figured out how else to fix the problem.

1.3.1 regression

After updating to Wine ver. 1.3.1 I can no longer start the game.

Cheat menu

One thing I have found not to work is the cheat command menu. It is supposed to appear when pressing alt+12, however this doesn't work for me.

ok, I managed to fix the VC80.CRT problem.

After installing the game and winetricks winxp d3dx9 dotnet20
I removed:
msvcr80.dll file from windows/system32
lua51.dll and lua5.1.dll from Program Files/Paradox../Victoria../

After that I installed code.google.com/p/luaforwindows/downloads/detail?name=LuaForWindows_v5.1.4-40.exe&can=2&q=

This is a lua package with the required VC runtime.

After doing this the game starts initializing until it says Loading Flags, and stays there.
