The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)
What works
importing music - dragging to the window,
music playback for a little while
play/pause/stop/etc.
any sort of bar works perfectly normally, but has pixels missing - that's just a graphical error though
I actually had no problems with the installer, even after checking that function about "autostart" or something. I just installed it, no archiver needed.
What does not
importing videos
importing too many songs at once (i'd keep it around 10-20 at a time)
music playback after a minute or two - it just stops. When it does, nothing can be played and you have to restart the program. I try to do it as quickly as possible to make sure it doesn't hang.
distnoted.exe closes itself
What was not tested
Pretty much every other function besides normal music playing - i.e. Ping, Genius, USB Devices...
Additional Comments
The program freezing is not uncommon, and it REALLY doesn't liked to be closed once it hangs.
Please note that this is a work in progress. There may be better methods to optimising iTunes under WINE but these are the best so far. If you know of something that could be improved here please let us know.
NOTE 1: your screen might turn black during installs, don't panic, just move
your mouse around and you will be able to see windows gradually.
Switching workspaces also fixes this.
NOTE 2: The installers will most likely record that they have failed. It should be fine for now though.
1) You might need to use Archive Manager, rar, or WinRar to extract AppleApplicationSupport.msi from the iTunesSetup.exe. Recent tests have not required this, but older versions of WINE seems to still need the extraction.
2) Make sure that your WINE config is set to Windows 7 (your screen might turn black during installs, don't panic, just move your mouse around and you will be able to see windows gradually. Switching workspaces also fixes this.)
3) Run AppleApplicationSupport.msi
4) Once that finishes run iTunesSetup. When it asks you if you want to turn autorun on, select no. iTunes will complain about this later (every time it's launched...) but if you select yes the installer will crash.
5) Switch your WINE configurations windows version to Windows 7.
6) Run iTunes
Check back here often as we will try to keep this up to date in accordance to advancements and suggestions.

ITunes screen blank
by Anne Racel on Thursday January 5th 2012, 5:40
My installation went smoother than expected. I simply downloaded the 32-bit version, changed my Wine to Windows 7, right-clicked on the download and opened with Wine. I unchecked all the boxes for song playing, etc. and let it install. But when I launch it, I see the menus at the top and left bar. But the main screen itself is blank. Am I missing something?
I am running on a 64-bit box. But when I tried to do the same with the 64-bit version, nothing happened.
Crash problem
by Olive on Sunday July 10th 2011, 2:15
I have succeded to intall itunes 10.3 under wine 1.3.24 (archlinux current on 10 July 2011) in the following way:
1) Extract the msi files from the installer as follow (unrar did not recognize it as a RAR archive). Run wine iTunesSetup.exe. When it ask you to accept the licence, kill wine (wineserver -k 9) (not just click exit as it will remove temporary files); go and fetch the msi files in a temporary directory (do not remember the name; find -iname "*.msi" ).
Then I try several variants:
I)
1) install QuickTime.msi
2) install iTunes.msi
II) install al the msi files.
I have always the same result. itunes run but crash often. In particular when I try to access the store. Accessing the store is the only thing I can't do natively under linux. So for me this is quite useless.

Avoiding distnoted.exe errors
by Michael Braxner on Monday January 24th 2011, 2:18
There does seem to be a quick albeit awkward fix to avoid the continues distnoted.exe segfault errors, and subsequent 'left-overs' piling up.
distnote.exe appears to be started by AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe, which in turn is triggered by iTunes itself.
Upon starting iTunes (10.1.1.4), simply KILL the distnoted.exe entries (there should be two of them), as well as the AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe (just filter for apple, and all three should come up).
iTunes will simply re-start the AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe, so no harm is done (and USB support doesn't exist anyway), but the re-started version does not seem to have any problems running distnoted.exe --- no more segfaults ;)
iTunes Installation

When you install iTunes it will complain about Visual C++ runtime components if you read the log. You can install them using winetricks or manually from Microsoft's web page.
I used "winetricks vcrun2005". I also tried with vcrun2008 and vcrun2010. There is no perceivable difference between them so I think u can use any.
I installed iTunes 10.1 from Apple's web page without use of any archiver/decompresser application.
PD: You may want to switch to Windows 7 or Vista to avoid screen problems and quicktime from crashing on startup.
Used WinRAR on exe
by Simon Blandford on Wednesday November 24th 2010, 9:37
I managed to extract the individual msi files from the iTunesSetup.exe file using WinRar. I actually installed the Windows version under Wine but I guess the Linux version would do just as well.
When I installed the MSI files one by one using wine msiexec /i .msi then ITunes started up OK.
I have Wine wine-1.3.5-1mdv2010.1 set up as XP on Mandriva 2010.1.
