What works

Some of the installation works. The install will download files to be installed and will copy them, as well as placing desktop and [Wine] menu items.

However, it seems the install doesn't complete.

What does not

The installer doesn't appear to go into the registration screen as might be expected (I haven't registered). The installer [appears to] crashes, but never completes; more obvious in terminal.

Trying to run the program from the Wine App menu will show it "starting" in the taskbar, then "crash". However, PartyGame.exe appears

What was not tested
I feel like I've exhausted most avenues. The "instant play" Java version found on the home page of partypoker.com seems to work, as a "work-around".

I have only been able to get PokerStars to work successfully with WINE.

Additional Comments

Installs = Chose yes because some installation occurs, but does not seem complete.

periodic buzzing
by andy on Monday August 10th 2009, 9:51
I installed party poker on wine. It all seemed fine and I was able to money play with no problems (except occasional internet connection issues). However after a couple of weeks, my computer has starting making the "out of time" buzzing at random. It now does this (every half hour or so) even when the machine is turned off (but plugged in), and whilst on - even if the program is not running!

Has this happened to anyone else??

by meh! on Sunday December 3rd 2006, 21:49
wine .26 and current pp client build 106 is playable

bets can be made, amounts resized, chips and cards seen, the interface is a touch buggy, hard to read stack in certain positions and the lobby doesnt seem to come back up when poker table closed, a game can be had however they have also released a web based java client, which might be a better idea ;)

Can only min bet with newest version
by Jeff Angelini on Friday June 9th 2006, 20:07
I have installed the latest version of Party Poker (version 94/95, it said) and whenever I try to bet, I can only bet the minimum. For example, at .10/.25, I can only raise to .50; or, if someone, for instance, bets 1, I can only raise to 2 (obviously, this is not limit . . .).

I am running wine 0.9.10 and the latest Party Poker that came out a couple of days ago. I've tried reinstalling, installing a different version of wine, creating a new .wine directory and starting completely over. Still no dice.

Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated.

wine 0.9.10
by Tom on Thursday March 23rd 2006, 18:00
I'm happy to say I've been using PartyPoker with wine 0.9.10 since it's release and I have not seen any issues due to regression. PartyPoker still works as decribed previously.

Party Poker Freezes
by Jawon on Sunday March 12th 2006, 13:34

Installed Wine (0.9.9) - Check
Installed Party Poker Client - Check
Installed additional DLL Files - Check
Made changes to Registry - Check

And yet when I load up RunApp.exe with wine the Client seems to freeze! I'm unable to even enter my username / password and login.

I typed ps at the console and found that there are six 'wine-preloader' running - maybe this is normal I'm not sure?

Any help would be highly appreciated!!

PS I tried running Party Poker with Wine 0.9.8 with no luck - same problem.

* I do have VMWare Workstation for Linux yet I don't have any Windows CD's lying around .. anyone want to email me the Windows ISO? Just Kidding! LOL

PartyPoker 1.2 build 92
by Tom on Tuesday March 7th 2006, 15:35
PartyPoker released a new version today which they claim will make playing tournaments more exciting. When you lauch PartyPoker you will receive a message box indicating that you are running an old version of PartyPoker and must upgrade. When I clicked the ok button a dialog box appeared showing me the upgrade status with the titlebar indicating it was connecting but after several attempts it never seemed to connect. So here is what I had to do.

1. Download the latest version of PartyPoker from:
www.partypoker.com/download/

2. Using wine, run the Uninstall.exe in (obviously unless your name is tom change that part to your name lol):
home/tom/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/PartyGaming/PartyPoker

3. Using wine, install the new version PartyPoker using the exe downloaded in step 1.

4. Enjoy and win lots of play money!

PartyPoker Lobby Menu Items
by Tom on Sunday March 5th 2006, 15:48
On my installation (SUSE Linux 10, Wine 0.9.9) most PartyPoker lobby menu items do not work because they require the launching of a web browswer.

To fix this problem:

1. run "Wine /home/tom/.wine/drive_c/windows/regedit.exe"

2. Navigate to:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Classses \http \shell \open \command"

and edit the value from "winebrowser" to "winebrowser %1"

3. Close the registery editor, launch PartyPoker and the lobby menu items will work.

Dealing Sound Stuck in a Loop
by Tom on Sunday March 5th 2006, 12:55
In the Gentoo testing results it was noted that "After a few hours, the dealing sound got stuck in a loop and kept playing until I quit the program." I was also experiencing this problem in SUSE Linux 10 in all versions of Wine from v0.9.5 to the current version v0.9.9. When I ran winecfg and clicked on the audio tab I received an error message indicating "There is no audio driver currently specified in the registry". All I needed to do to solve the looping dealing sound on my machine was uncheck the default OSS Driver and check it again, apply the change and click ok and I haven't experienced the looping dealing sound since.

New PartyPoker and Wine 0.9.8
by Tom on Wednesday March 1st 2006, 6:06
I was able to get the new version of PartyPoker to work with Wine 0.9.8 on SUSE Linux10 without using WineTools.

After installing Wine using the SUSE Linux10 RPM I installed an older version of the Mozilla ActiveX control from:
www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/MozillaControl16.exe

This version installed fine for me but before deciding to use this version I also tested 1.7.1.2 and 1.7.7 but both versions failed to install due to "The Mozilla Control was unable to detect where your Mozilla Layout Libraries may be found." I couldn't find these libraries on my machine even when I installed the Windoze version of Firefox using Wine.

As I said v1.6 installed clean so I proceeded to install PartyPoker. After the install was complete, PartyPoker launched just fine without getting the blank window that was mentioned in an earlier post due to the missing ActiveX controls.
