Description

This is the basic version of Empire Earth, without the AOC expansion.

There are 3 versions:
1.0, 1.04 and 2.0. These verions don't make any noticeable difference in Wine.
The 2.0 version is NOT Empire Earth II

What works

Game Version 1.00.2020

-> Game installes from CD (mounted /dev/hdc /mnt --> cd /mnt --> wine setup.exe)

-> Game starts with the msvcft (native, builtin) option and the Direct Sound Edit

-> Menu apears.


What does not

-> Mouse is very slow.

-> In Game i got only 8 FPS (Win 98SE same PC 30 - 80 FPS)

-> If the courser of the mouse moves over menu entrys its getting very slow)


What was not tested
-> Networking
-> long playing

Bronze because not playabe but better then the last tests.

HOWTO

Running the game:

-Use the native msvcrt.dll

-disable DirectMusic

do this by setting the following Registry key to "0":

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SSSI\Empire Earth\Music Enabled

 
WARNING

Freezes:

Empire Earth will freeze if you end the game by clicking on the "Quit Game" button in the menu.

Empire Earth 1.0 (happens in 0.9.50)

Bugs:

Empire Earth's Mouse will hang if you tab out of the game(and back in).

Empire Earth 1.0 (happens in 0.9.50)

 
HOWTO

To allow EE to find the CD you should open winecfg and add a drive mapping, setting it to CDROM.

Mouse Fix

I actually got the mouse working by only using native dinput.dll, I didn't have time to test a lot, but it appears to be working.

Get an error when try to install

Who can I fix the mouse problem?

I see that some of you guys have been able to play through Empire Earth and I wonder how, I as many other have had the problem that the mouse is too low which makes it more or less unplayable.

How did you fix the mouse problem?
