Additional Comments
Sometimes gta4browser crashes, this can be safely ignored.
Sometimes cars doesn't moving (engine working, but car stays on place). Need to re-enter car a few times.
Game runs a bit slowly than on Windows.
Need to install XLiveLess, SecuRom bypasser and all stuff from game directory (vcredist_x86.exe, wmfdist11.exe and wmpappcompat.exe).
Game can't recognize CPU and video card model, in benchmark cpu load always 0%
Games for Windows - LIVE does not work under Wine. GFWL components will crash any game that use the service. The only thing to do about it is to cut XLive out using XLiveLess Patch.
XLive is out and the game launch is unobstructed. Please note that from now on the online play via GFWL is disabled so as to prevent cheating.

Crashes on disclaimer
by Ryan McCann on Thursday April 25th 2013, 22:11
I followed all of the instructions on here to get the game working, but to no avail. gta4browser no longer crashes, but whenever I start the game, GTAIV.exe crashes on the disclaimer notice just before the intro. I saved a backtrace, if anyone thinks that might be useful then let me know and I'll post it.
GTA doesn't work
by Benjamin on Monday April 8th 2013, 5:52
Hi,
I don't know if someone can help me...
I have tried to follow the explanations written on the website but it doesn't work.
In fact, I have installed GTA IV with Wine, then, I have downloaded, unzipped and copy the files in the directory of the game.
Then, I have tried to installed update 7 with POL, but it is written that the game GTA IV is not installed.
But there are the files installed in the directory...
Do you know what can I do?
Thank you.
Problème avec GTA IV
by Benjamin on Monday April 8th 2013, 5:49
Bonjour,
Merci.
Cordialement

gta4browser, then GTAIV.exe crashes
by Sz on Tuesday July 10th 2012, 2:28
I would need a bit of help, both gta4browser and GTAIV.exe crashes when I try to start the game.
I have installed it from the normal double DVD retail package. The install didn't finish completely it stopped on 100%. At that point I killed it. Like this I have the game folder and everything except the registry entries - I think :) .
After this I've downloaded the patch. That of course wouldn't install as it can't find the game by itself. So had to run it with the following command:
wine UpdateTitle.exe /f "c:\\Program Files (x86)\\Rockstar Games\\Grand Theft Auto IV"
Like this it installed.
Before the trace I these are the last error messages:
fixme:d3d:wined3d_swapchain_present Ignoring flags 0x1.
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xffffffff at address 0xeebfe886 (thread 009f), starting debugger...
fixme:d3d:wined3d_swapchain_present Ignoring flags 0x1.
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0xffffffff in 32-bit code (0xeebfe886).
DFA did not initialize properly.

"When I start the game (using LaunchGTAIV.exe) I get this error:
GTA IV FATAL ERROR: DFA did not initialize properly. Please make sure you are using LaunchGTAIV.exe to launch the game."
I'm getting the same error using 1.3.9 within playonlinux. I have no idea how to fix this.
