Can not enable desktop emulation for some reason
by Igor Zinovyev on Friday March 15th 2013, 6:27
Hello!

Can someone please help me fix a minor problem? I want to run PS:T in a desktop emulation mode rather than in fullscreen, but it doesn't seem to work. I tried setting different resolutions with the "Emulate a virtual desktop" option checked, but to no avail. It goes fullscreen anyway.

I am using the latest GOG version with all mods installed according to the GOG's mod guide. The desktop resolution gets set to the one I specify in the widescreen mod settings.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hanging cutscenes
by dragonfi on Wednesday February 27th 2013, 14:12
It is known that the "Subtitled Cutscenes" fix from the WeiDU fix pack can cause certain in-game cutscenes to hang. It is not a wine issue, but it is easy to mistake as such. Thankfully, removing the fix (by running the WeiDU installer again) solves the problem.

running full screen

To overcome bug bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5535,
add the value VideoMemroySize=16 in the registry (under HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D) - see wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys.

You also need to set the windows version to NT 4.0.

Hi,

to save others the trouble of how to install mods here is a little how to, the mods might have installed easier with earlier version of wine and weidu.

Create a new prefix for planescape and install the GOG version of planescape torment.

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/planescape/ wine setup_planescape_torment.exe

Here are the links to the mods:

www.spellholdstudios.net/ie/pst-fixpack
www.spellholdstudios.net/ie/pst-qtweaks
www.spellholdstudios.net/ie/pst-ub
www.spellholdstudios.net/ie/ghostdogs-pst-ui
gibberlings3.net/widescreen/

After downloading all files let's begin with modding/patching of the game.

Install the fixpack first. Copy it into your main torment dir and extract it.
Then use the windows exe to run it. I had mixed success with the linux version of the weidu tools.

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/planescape/ wine setup-pst-fix.exe

Select what you want and follow the instructions.

Next is the Unfinished Buisness mod. Extract to torment dir and run it.

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/planescape/ wine setup-pst-ub.exe

Same goes for Quinn's Tweak mod.

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/planescape/ wine setup-pst-tweak.exe

Now you would have a thoroughly patched install with lot of fixes and some new and fun content.
The resolution is still at 640x480 and feels to narrow/small at times.

Get the windows widescreen exe run it from the dir it is in with the follwing command.

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/planescape/ wineconsole cmd

Then copy and paste widescreen-v3.05.exe into the console and the mod will apply.
I have tried to use the linux version of weidu mods but couldn't get it to work.
The script complains about missing bif files and reverts the changes.

Set the wanted resolution (I picked 1024x768) and you are almost ready to play.

Now comes the tricky part, because ghostdogs mod uses a ' in the name, the patching will fail because bash uses it differently than windows.

Follow the link and chnage the names of the directories accordingly.

www.shsforums.net/topic/47213-ghostdogs-pst-ui-working-with-wine-on-linux/

After that you can patch it with the native weidu linux tools.

tolower
WeInstall ghostdog.tp2

Which can be downloaded from here, I use the beta version because of a problem with the tolower script.

www.weidu.org/users/thebigg/beta/

Here is my little startup script.

#!/bin/bash
cd .wine/planescape/drive_c/Program\ Files/GOG.com/Planescape\ Torment/
xrandr -s 1024x768
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/planescape/ wine Torment.exe
xrandr -s 1920x1200
cd

The game runs fine, resting and changing areas work as normal.

I think that is all for now.
