Additional Comments

tested from a totally clean wineprefix @ winver xp, and I removed the runonce section of .../steamapps/common/brink/installscript.vdf, so the msvc/directx redists would not be installed when launching the game from steam.

About the sound
by Jean-Michel on Saturday June 1st 2013, 21:53
I recently made a 32-bit wineprefix for Terraria so now I have 2 steam clients installed, one for the 64-bit and one for the 32-bit prefix.

I have the retail version of Brink but it's associated with steam, so a short while ago I decided to try brink from the 32-bit prefix and I have sound, which doesn't happen on the 64-bit prefix. That's very strange, unfortunately the performance on 32-bit is crappy, it stutters all the time and is very unstable. Too bad.

For the sound
by Ulbri on Monday August 29th 2011, 21:09
Hi, I used "dsound" (at least it's called like that in "Playonlinux functions") and the sound ig worked fine.

Progress
by Ahmed W. on Friday May 13th 2011, 18:35
Few notes :
1. Patch from bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20395 (Raw input hack updated for wine 1.3.15), however you can't run it in virtual desktop (which wasn't a problem at all)

2. the audio problem is xaudio related, winetricks xact_jun2010 makes the game instantly crash, all compnations of disabling mmdevapi, setting to win7, xp, setting the game to use openal instead of dsound never worked, and the existence of xaudio2_6.dll in system32 WILL make the game refuse to start.

Ref for audio settings in game : www.fragworld.org/frag/brink/brink-pc-tweak-guide.html
Sample autoexec.cfg :

seta r_fullscreen 1
seta r_mode -1
seta r_customWidth 1920
seta r_customHeight 1080
seta com_showFPS 1
seta r_useThreadedRenderer 2
seta com_allowconsole 1
seta com_videoRam 2048
seta s_driver openal
seta s_libOpenAL C:\Windows\System32\OpenAL32.dll
seta s_numberOfSpeakers 2

skidrow installer may be busted
by Austin English on Thursday May 12th 2011, 23:01
For me, installing the skidrow version reports success (there's a complaint about a directx cab that can be ignored), but the crack isn't installed. Manually downloading and installing the crack works around it.
