Old test results
The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)

What works
Everything as far as I can test: sound, FX, shaders, video clips, etc.

What does not
Nothing detected.

What was not tested
Long gameplay is the only thing that wasn't tested well.

Additional Comments

Works almost out of the box (installs the game itself, automatically installs MSVC redistributable + DX10 package) except one thing: there is a need to manually overload DSound DLL via winetricks or via winecfg to set it to DX's one instead of Wine's one. That's all :-) Enjoy the game!

Australian retail box install hint
by Adam Bolte on Saturday October 6th 2012, 12:06
I created a new wine prefix (Windows XP, all defaults) running 1.5.14. The installation went relatively smoothly - until it wanted to run EA Download Manager.

The Download Manager would run, but refuse to let me log in or reset my password - it would simply fail each time it would try to connect to the server. I also could not run AliceMadnessReturns.exe because it would try to connect to the remote servers to check the game had past its release date and would crash.

In the end, what worked for me was creating an account on origin.com and once logged in clicked "Redeem Product Code" and entered the code from the box there. While there, I also downloaded the latest Origin client, and installed that in the same wine prefix and ran it.

At this point, I could see that the Origin client had recognised the game was activated, associated with my account and installed. I then ran AliceMadnessReturns.exe once again. This time, it worked without issue.

Not sure all those steps were necessary, but it's what worked for me and I spent way too much time figuring it out. No DLL overrides, audio configuration changes or anything else was required to get the game to load.

No in-game sound
by Nagy Aron on Tuesday August 21st 2012, 9:38
The game has sound during the intro and cutscenes, but no sound during gameplay. Tried setting to win7 and audio to alsa, to no avail.

Will not launch
by daniel on Sunday April 15th 2012, 13:12
I installed the Steam version of the game with no modifications, but after signing into the EA screen I get a this software has been modified or tampered with error. I bought the actual Steam version of the game, so its no pirate.

Any known work around?

Installs but doesn't run
by Jared Applegate on Sunday June 19th 2011, 18:47
This happens every time I try to play the game:

wine ./AliceMadnessReturns.exe

Followed immediately by a Register Dump (which I'll not post here unless requested - it's long.)
