Additional Comments
After installing the latest patch, From Dust gives the option for offline play (you need to click "logout" from the Uplay launcher and then select the "offline mode" option there).
The game itself now launches, and the Ubisoft logo is shown. The game crashes with an unhandled page fault before the main menu whilst the loading icon is spinning.

Chrome Web Store
by Jeff Cook on Wednesday August 29th 2012, 4:51
FYI, From Dust is available from the Chrom(e|ium) Web Store as a NaCL/WebGL application. It seems to have most of the functionality of the Windows client and runs natively on Linux within Chrome. I have not tested on Firefox.
The game acts as a demo and allows you to play through to the end of the second territory, at which point you are asked to pay $14.99 to continue playing. I purchased it just to express support for the WebGL client, which finally allows me to play the game without rebooting to Windows (which, essentially, means the game never gets played).
Performance is pretty decent on highest settings with my i7-2600K/GTX 285 on Chromium 21, nvidia 304.43, Linux 3.5.3, and xorg 1.12.4, though some graphical effects seem a bit simpler than the Windows version (though, this could just be bias against WebGL applications ;) ).
As of August 29, 2012 and WINE 1.5.11, From Dust still does not work on Wine and appears to be hung up on another long-standing bug. As such, if you want to play From Dust on Linux, the Chrome Web Store is probably your best bet.
Error with back buffer
by JFL on Sunday July 1st 2012, 11:28
Bug 28119 is now solved in wine 1.5.7. From Dust continues to start but crashes with the following error:
fixme:thread:SetThreadIdealProcessor (0x260): stub
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33f770,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33f290,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:d3d:swapchain_init The application requested more than one back buffer, this is not properly supported.
Please configure the application to use double buffering (1 back buffer) if possible.
fixme:thread:SetThreadIdealProcessor (0x27c): stub
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000010 at address 0x54f232 (thread 0060), starting debugger...
I think it is related to the bug 16571 that is a really old bug... (not sure it will be fixed soon !).
Offline Mode Gone?
by Josh on Wednesday May 23rd 2012, 7:48
I installed From Dust again today to have a bit of a play around with trying to get it working, and the offline mode link no longer appears in the logon screen of the Uplay launcher.
Different Crash After Update
by Josh on Thursday September 8th 2011, 20:04
From Dust updated itself a short while ago. It now crashes in Offline Mode (I had to disable my network entirely to get the offline option in the Uplay launcher) whilst at the loading circle prior to the main menu (after Ubisoft logos) with an unhandled page fault.
Interestingly, this is where it crashed on my girlfriend's Windows XP laptop before updating the video drivers on that.
The game crash
by Berillions on Wednesday September 7th 2011, 15:20
Hi,
It seems that the game crash because it's (maybe, i haven't this game actually) the same problem that Assassin's Creed : Brotherhood which crash with her patch 1.02 and 1.03.
In fact, with the vanilla version and patch 1.01, Brotherhood save the game in this folder : ~/.wine/drive_c/users/YOUR_NAME/Application Data/Ubisoft
But, with the latest patch, Brotherhood saves the game in this folder :
~/.wine/drive_c/users/YOUR_NAME/Saved Games
Error Whilst Synchronising Saved Games
by Josh on Sunday August 21st 2011, 19:39
I don't believe that this error is important as it only seems to occur the first time that From Dust is launched (looks like Uplay is trying to synchronise stuff that doesn't actually exist).
