Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)

What works

Installing the game. Logging in to the game (game remembers login details). Creating a character. Playing the game. Shadows, reflections, particle effects, weather, smoke, fire, textures all render perfectly. Adding contacts and joining a Guild. Whisper and chat. Cut scenes. WvW and general PvE. Zoning. Ran the game on max graphics setting without a glitch.

What does not

Patcher crashes every few hundred MB (compains about a memory buffer that should be increased). Just relauching fixes it though. Once the game is downloaded everything is fine though. A very minor graphical glitch at character creation where the lower hair edge is visible through the character model (only really noticable for characters with shorter hairstyles). This is not seen during actual gameplay.

Other things that didnt work were known issues with the beta and not Linux-specific.

What was not tested
Arena PvP. Most of the launcher modifiers.

Additional Comments

I say platinum despite the launcher crashes since that is imo just a convenience problem (have to babysit the download to relaunch after each crash).

Test GW2
by Peter Li on Friday September 28th 2012, 22:31
My test is on:

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Wine version 1.5.12 GW2 with -dx9single argument
Asus p8z77-v-LK
Nvidia gtx 660 TI
8 gig ram
FPS: 20-30fps although it can drop down to 1 fps if I turn around with mouse really quick.

Things tested and works:

Combat, Exploration, Questing, Portaling, talking to NPC's, swapping armor/weapons

Things not tested:

PvP, dungeoning, crafting, dyeing armor

Thing(s)? that caused me to crash:

Doing personal quests with cut in scenes where you talk to the NPC. (If anyone have a solution for this, please let me know).

Stuck, need an idea for next step
by Georgsson on Sunday August 26th 2012, 6:49
I had guild wars 2 running using Nvidia 9600GT on Ubuntu 12.04, with wine 1.5.9-raw in PlayOnLinux, slow but worked. Decided to change graphics cards, installed Radeon 7750. This required me to manually install Catalyst 12.8, and upgrade the linux kernel to 3.4.9 (with out it the computer freezes, no sound available, etc).
After all this I get WoW to run successfully but not Guild Wars 2. Using the -dx9single parameter I get the downloader to start and successfully update. I can get into login screen and login, after which gw2.exe is running at 100% CPU but the game is not displayed.
Since login UI is very slow and I find the following output in WINEDEBUG: "
err:winediag:shader_generate_glsl_declarations The hardware does not support enough uniform components to run this shader, it may not render correctly. ",
I'm on the opinion that the GPU is not being used, somehow. But I do not understand why and could use ideas for how to proceed from here.

Camera Look, White Rain for a beginner
by Drake on Sunday August 26th 2012, 1:22
Heya guys,

I don't have a ton of experience with Wine as far as the more complicated stuff goes.

Can someone either walk me through very simply applying the patch to fix the camera looking, or better yet just post their engine for me to download? I really don't want to have to mess around with it too much, as I feel I'm likely to mess it up.

I'm also wondering if anyone else has white rain and a couple of other effects issues. If anyone knows how to fix this, that'd be awesome as well. Thanks in advance.

UseGLSL == disabled
by Ruei-Yuan Lu on Saturday August 25th 2012, 23:34
Hi,

I found that disabling GLSL can improve the performance but cause blue fog glitch. Is there any solution to keep good framerate and no glitch at the same time ?

White streaks
by Jason Fields on Saturday August 25th 2012, 12:21
The game is working fine (though with sub-par performance), but in the Sylvari starting area white splotches (I assume from some sort of weather effects) appear making the game all but unplayable. Any workarounds?

Camera
by Thomas Benn on Saturday August 25th 2012, 3:27
Howdie folks,

GW2 is up (has been for some 4 hours) and it runs alright on my PC. With one BIG exception: I can not pan the camera view. Not during character creation, not in-game. My wifes character died which made the camera go up in the sky and now she is stuck with this close-up top-down view and can't do anything about it.
Does anyone have any idea how to work around this?

Launcher shader error
by Martin on Friday August 24th 2012, 11:07
It seems like Radeon users get a shader error when launching the launcher. I do not know exactly when this started happening. The last BWE worked okay with the Raw input patch. I believe I was using Catalyst 12.6 at the time and I just updated it to 12.8 to see if it made any difference.

`winediag:shader_generate_glsl_declarations The hardware does not support enough uniform components to run this shader, it may not render correctly.'

Anyone else who's experiencing this?

Using Wine 1.5.11 and Catalyst 12.8

How about you nvidia users, are you able to launch the launcher normally?

Broken Character Creation during last Stress Test
by Hideaki on Friday August 10th 2012, 22:03
Something they did during the updates to the last stress test broke a few things under Linux.

If you already had a character created from a Windows install or a previous beta, game-play on that character worked fine. When trying to create a new character, however, you would get to set 9/10 and press next and the game would just lock up, never getting to the last step(naming your character).

I also attempted to delete a character and the game would also lock up by just pressing the "delete" button.

I tried using 1.5.9 and 1.5.10, both versions caused the same issue. Lets hope whatever caused this doesn't carry on to release...

Freeze when using chat
by Reed on Thursday August 9th 2012, 16:56

Black on black launcher panel
by tree on Thursday August 9th 2012, 11:15
since today the GW2 launcher is broken. It's technically working (patching and input fields) but because everything is black on black it's not usable for tonights stress test. It also effects OSX, Linux and ATI or Nvidia.

Using other wine versions 1.3, 1.4. or 1.5 doesn't change anything. Moreover changing the windows version or some graphics show the same results - black launcher window.

Any workarounds are appreciated - e.g. commandline options?

System Requirements
by Drake on Monday August 6th 2012, 10:42
I know it's all a huge befuddled mess when it comes to system requirements through Wine, but I'm running a late '09 unibody Macbook (*not* a pro) with OS 10.6.

2 GHz Dual Core processor and 2 gigs of memory. Does anyone know if this machine will be able to play GW2? I didn't get a chance to try the beta's while they were up.

I'm sure the performance will be bad, but as long as I can play (ignoring any Wine issues) that'd be great. So any info from anyone would be much appreciated.

I know Guild Wars was one of the best optimized and most impressive running games in gaming history, here's hoping GW2 is the same, although it already appears to be rather bloated like all the rest of the MMO's recently.

Ingame store progress
by cyanpill on Sunday July 15th 2012, 13:16
So in BWE2 I observed that the ingame store did not work because it was calling a browser window that was coming up blank. In the windows temp folder there was a folder with an exe and dll that I found out to be a version of chrome. Running the exe from temp pulled up a blank page that couldn't load fonts, and couldn't load any webpage. In the last few days I've been experimenting with older advice, like using riched20 and riched30 in winetricks. This did help to load fonts properly in the wine-d chorme, but still no web access.

Now however, with the recent patches to GW2, instead the browser included is "Awesomium" again a modified chrome. From googling around I found that it has been used in many games, for example EVE and AoC, and I found this bug report which seems to indicate that vcrun2008 is needed. bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25206

It's possible that the store will work this weekend with no further changes. Hey, it was working for other games two years ago. I haven't been able to get the exe from temp to work however.

Beta Weekend 2
by StefanT on Monday June 11th 2012, 6:27
The game runs without any problems on my system - Intel 2500K, Geforce 560Ti, Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. I run the game in a fresh Wine environment via PlayOnLinux.

Some tipps from my side:

- enable a virtual desktop in Wine. The game gets stuck for me if I try to switch away from it. This does not happen with the virtual desktop (of course).

- installing direct3d9 (via winetricks) makes the game more responsive. Without it turning the camera feels a little sluggish.

Overall the performance of the game is not as good as in Windows, but it is very playable with medium settings in 1920x1200 on my system. It tends to get a bit sluggish in dense WvW action, but I can live with that. The game performance is improving anyways, so lets see what the next beta weekend brings.

Beta Weekend 2 unplayable
by JuPi on Saturday June 9th 2012, 19:23
HD4800-series with fglrx 12.4, 1 fps. No joke, the game refreshes every second.
Things I've tried:
All variations of in-game video settings
Wine 1.5.3 through 1.5.5
d3d registry keys
dx9 through winetricks
Recreating xorg.conf with different TLS values
Different Catalyst A.I. settings
Lower mip-map quality i CCCLE

The opensource radeon driver fared a bit better, I could at least move, though rendering was so badly broken it didn't help.

Any ATI owner out there who had a better experience and maybe could share a few tricks?

Regarding test data - Known Issues
by inf loop on Tuesday May 1st 2012, 12:18
Please before rating the application, please consider reading the Guild wars 2 Known Issues published by arenanet. Don't forget that this is a beta release, if these bugs affect both windows and wine, then wine works perfectly.
I state this, because I see test data above mentioning that changing graphics settings doesn't change anything, or the performance is poor, or there are graphical glitches on ATI on the Does not work section.
I request the maintainers to change the ratings accordingly.

Last week's known issues as published by arenanet on beta forums:
Audio
Combat audio may not play correctly when enemies or players are struck.
Commerce
The Gem Store and the Trading Post may not be viewable by some players.
Events
The amount of time between enemy waves in some escort events may be long.
Queensdale: on occasion, the centaurs encountered during the “Battle for Beetletun” event may become stuck on the sprinklers.
Hardware Compatibility
Display: the graphics-settings slider has only a minor impact on performance at this time. •We are currently optimizing Guild Wars 2, making ongoing improvements to the game’s frame rate. Presently, the game is CPU-bound on most high-end systems, so lowering graphics settings or upgrading your video card may not have a large impact on performance.
On older or lower-end machines, it is recommended that you try disabling reflections to improve frame rate.
Installing the game client into the Program Files directory on Windows Vista or Windows 7 can lead to issues with the patching process.
It is advised that you install the game to another folder or launch it as an administrator.
Forcing anti-aliasing through AMD Catalyst™ Control Center or AMD VISION™ Engine Control Center typically results in a black screen when playing. ATI cards that are known to cause the black-screen issue while using the latest drivers (12.3) include:

•HD 2900
•HD 5770
•HD 6970
Windows TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) will sometimes restart a user’s graphics drivers if they become unresponsive, resulting in a notification that the graphics driver has been restarted.
Alienware ATI Laptops: the Guild Wars 2 client does not restore properly after being minimized.
Currently, adjusting the core clock speed of the GPU or CPU typically results in lower performance.
It is advised that you leave core clock speeds at factory defaults.
AMD CrossFire™ and NVIDIA® SLI™ are not currently supported. •These features should be disabled while running the game.
Enabling NVIDIA 3D VISION® may cause a crash on some systems. •If you experience a crash while this setting is enabled, it is recommended that you disable it in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Miscellaneous
Dyes: equipping new armor does not keep the old dye settings.
NPCs
Occasionally, multiple NPCs may overlap with each other while walking.
Interacting with walking NPCs may cause them to stop, disappear, and then reappear at another point in their path.
Personal Story
On rare occasions, a player’s personal story may not progress correctly. Restarting these instances and trying again should allow you to continue.
While progressing through your personal story, some of the recorded audio lines will not match the text that is displayed. This is due to changes made after the lines were originally recorded, and will be corrected in future versions of the game.
Additionally, during your personal story, some of the NPCs will not have accurate (or any) lip-sync animations. This is an additional effect of lines having been changed after they were originally recorded.
Points of Interest
While trying to completely explore maps and find all points of interest, it is important to note that some of these locations are not labeled on the correct floor.
Click on the map-level icons in the lower-right corner of the world map—or use the Page Up and Page Down keys while viewing the world map—to reveal the different floors.
Renown Regions
In some cases, the voiced audio of a scout’s description of nearby renown regions is not played.
Queensdale: on rare occasions, the shell game in the “Support the citizens of Beetletun ” renown region may not function correctly.
Queensdale: completing the “Unite the ettins” renown region does not count toward map completion. As a result, the maximum completion for the Queensdale map is 16 out of 17 renown hearts.
Hall of Memories (PvP Lobby): renown regions are currently shown without descriptions.
Social
Chat: using a bound letter key to begin a chat reply (for example, after assigning “y” as the hotkey for chat replies) results in that letter being typed into the chat message field.
Contacts: some players appear offline.
Guilds: there is an infrequent issue with members not appearing on the roster of a guild.
Parties: on very rare occasions—affecting users on a case-by-case basis—players are unable to join or create parties.
UI
Display: selecting the “Windowed Fullscreen” option does not save the setting.
Mouse: Using Alt+Tab while auto-running with the mouse will disable the Guild Wars 2 custom mouse pointer and replace it with the Windows cursor. This will affect the player’s ability to perform certain actions in the game.
Restarting the Guild Wars 2 client will correct this.
Sound: the “Mute when GW2 is in the background” setting does not function properly.
LOCALIZATION KNOWN ISSUES
Most of the audio for BWE1 is available in German and French, but some voiced audio is still missing. Lion’s Arch is particularly affected by this issue as most of the voiced audio heard there plays in English.
If a recorded line of audio is outdated, it will still play. This means that some subtitles will not match the voiced audio you hear, since the subtitles have been updated.
In the event that no voiced audio has yet been recorded in English, no audio will be heard.
Gender issues
Anytime female player characters address themselves or are addressed by an NPC with nouns like “friend,” “shaman,” “hero,” etc., the voiced audio will not reflect the gender correctly. The subtitles should, however, reflect the correct gender.
Timing issues: Currently, some of the timing in the French and German audio is not correct. As a result, the voiced audio in some conversations between multiple NPCs overlaps or is cut off.
Crafting
Some translations do not reflect the correct names. The jeweler crafting discipline is particularly affected by this.
Achievements
Newly added achievements are missing their translations.
Lion’s Arch
Some conversation text still appears in English.
Commerce panel
The text in the tabs of the Commerce panel (Gem Store, Trading Post, etc.) has not yet been localized and will appear in English.

Auction house blank page?
by Reed on Monday April 30th 2012, 9:29
Did the exchange/trading post/gem store show up for anyone else? For me it just showed a blank page on all the tabs of the commerce menu.

I've heard it was a known issue on ArenaNet's side, but could it also be a wine bug?

Crash when starting Gw2.exe
by Daniel on Thursday April 26th 2012, 12:12
I've downloaded the game (but it crashed several times during the download), so that the "Play" button now appears normally. However, whenever I launch Gw2.exe to get to that "Play" menu, it crashes.
I get a Gw2.exe window saying "A serious error has occured that prevents the program from continuing to run; however, your help can help prevent this error from occurring in the future by reporting the error to ArenaNet. Please press the send button to report this error.
Your assistance in tracking this error is greatly appreciated, and your email address will not be used for any purpose other than in relation to this error report.".

However, the message from terminal is the following:

daniel@Posejdon:~$ wine /home/daniel/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Guild\ Wars\ 2/Gw2.exe

fixme:dbghelp:elf_search_auxv can't find symbol in module

My system info:
Kernel: 3.0.0-14-generic, Ubuntu 11.10
CPU: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 810 Processor
RAM: 4 GB
Graphic card: GeForce GTS 250 (updated to last, 295.40 version)

Any ideas what to do to make it work (to get to the login screen)?
