Description

The Secret World is a massively multiplayer online world with a unique modern-day setting and unparalleled freedom of character progression.

Imagine if every myth, conspiracy theory and urban legend was true.

Imagine a world where you can become anything you want to be, without restrictions such as classes or levels. This is the premise for The Secret World, Funcom’s upcoming massively multiplayer online game set in the modern-day real world.

Old test results
The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)

What works

Downloading, installation and patching all work under wine. I created a character on early access weekend and played through the Tokyo disaster intro scene. All cutscenes so far have worked.

My settings:

d3dx9 and d3dx9_43 installed in a new prefix using winetricks.

d3dx9_43 set to builtin under Winecfg > Libraries. The game detected directx after this and installed properly. I got a message that my video driver was too old, but the game worked anyway.

Virtual desktop emulation.

What does not

No video in fullscreen, only audio if virtual desktop is not emulated. Using windowed mode, the game freezes and crashes randomly.

The game ran smoothly through the intro scene, but slowed to a crawl once I entered populated areas. I've tried ddr=opengl, glsl=disabled and a few other wine settings to no avail.

What was not tested
Anything beyond the first hour after character creation.

Workaround for flickering?
by Jen on Friday May 24th 2013, 22:27

If you add the registry values in there, I've found that it flickers far less. It will a bit, but the quest journal, UI and the like is readable without risk of seizure.

Nothing New??
by Enziet on Wednesday February 27th 2013, 22:22
I may have posted this in the wrong spot before. I've been watching this for awhile. The only thing preventing me from running linux full time is this software. Has the Dev given up?? I sure hope not.

where to find dxfullsetup
by prospero on Tuesday December 25th 2012, 18:43
Just a minor note, dxfullsetup isn't available thru winetricks but rather playonlinux. It does indeed fix the clientpatcher.exe crash

i think the blinking is related to this other game bug
by Joël on Sunday December 16th 2012, 1:51
bug page :
bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31442
And let me explain why i think it is.
Originally Guild Wars 2 wasn't displaying the launcher window on my computer.
Appending the -dx9single parameter solved it at the time (and still does).

Today i screwed my GW2 installation and remade it from scratch.
I forgot about the -dx9single parameter (and so tried to run GW2 without it).

The difference with before is the launcher window is no longer missing completely, it's blinking !

Now going on suppositions...
Maybe during one or other of the recent wine updates the support for whatever cause the bug to make the GW2 launcher missing was somewhat improved or partially fixed.

Is there a workaround (such as the GW2 -dx9single parameter) that would allow to stop the blinking in The Secret World ?
