Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)

What works

Install, via Steam.

Game loads without any issues.

Single player, all graphical settings set to high, resolution set to 1920x1080.

Audio, Sound effects, voices, music.

Online, internet multi-player, played with 4 players for over 3 hours, no problems.

Have logged about 10 hours of game play and have had no issues.

What does not

Shadows cause textures to tear, do not blend properly.  To resolve the issue, disable shadows via settings within Torchlight.  Does not effect game play, purely cosmetic issue.

What was not tested
Nothing.

Shadow issue
Shadows do not work in Act 1, once in Act 2 I enabled shadows on very high detail and they worked perfectly.  Went back to Act 1 and the blending issue showed up again.  Once back in Act 2, shadows worked.

WARNING: Shutdown problems

It appears the game doesn't always shut down properly. For the all versions, this will waste RAM (and possibly CPU time). For the Steam version, this will also prevent cloud syncs, and you will not be able to re-launch Torchlight 2 until the old process is gone.

Use killall Torchlight2.exe2 to force-kill it. In my experience, this has no negative effects (if you do it after trying to shut down the game properly first).

how to for opensuse 12.2
by Joël on Sunday July 21st 2013, 8:39
_notes_ This is how i managed to get it working, but not all these steps may be actually necessary.

) using wine 1.6
) using the steam version of the game

There is a 'Plugins.cfg' file in the game directory with these lines :
'Plugin=RenderSystem_Direct3D9
#Plugin=RenderSystem_GL'

DO NOT edit the # to enable GL rendering, it doesn't work (game crashes before rendering anything).

Run the game as is and let it crash (if it doesn't crash you can skip the rest of the how to).
It should install msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll files into :
/home/Joël/.wine/drive_c/windows/syswow64/

The path may be different depending on your wine prefixes.

Copy/paste the msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll files to :
/home/Joël/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Torchlight II/

Again adjust the path to match your setup.

in 'winecfg' add the following libraries overrides (no need to download d3dx9_41.dll because it's already there) :

d3dx9_41.dll
msvcp100.dll
msvcr100.dll

(edit to native and enjoy the game)

Steam Installed How?
by Daniel R. Koris on Wednesday May 22nd 2013, 16:26
For this particular install, does Steam have to be installed using Wine? Because there is the new linux version out which I am using. I assume the install would probably not work for it in that regard?
