The Bat! e-mail client. Mainly runs well on Xandros Desktop 2 under Wine (in the main much better than under CrossOver Office3 and 4) but suffers periodic freezes where the program locks up and has to be killed via Process Manager. There is a little problem with icons and splash screens containing transparency - these are either totally see-through or black. This problems were regressions. They are gone in latest wine.
Versions below 5.x are outdated.

by Joerg Schiermeier on Saturday July 26th 2008, 7:47
Hello!
In the newest developer version of 'The Bat!' (v1.1.2) some problems are solved. For example the problem with the buttons which often are shown only as gray squares now disappear!
Also some minor bugs such as the cursor is invisible in the mail editor and so on.
No icons with wine 0.9.56, 0.9.57
by Nikolay Kukushkin on Sunday March 9th 2008, 1:43
TheBat ver.3.99.1, works fine under wine 0.9.46-55. Some little problem (doesn't work "send" buttom in composer, doesn't connect to gmail using SSL) but usable.
After 0.9.56 all icons transform to white squares. Tried 0.9.57 - same effect. Go back at 0.9.55. Screenshots in gallery
Change in 'The Bat!' access to the Windows-Registry => don't work!
by Joerg Schiermeier on Thursday January 17th 2008, 19:37
Since the version 'The Bat!' v3.99.25 the application use a new method to access the registry. This don't work properly. 'The Bat!' always asks at startup for its settings.
See also the changelog of Ritlabs (v3.99.25):
------
[ ] Under Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows Vista and later or Windows Server 2003 SP1, Windows Server 2008 and later, The Bat! uses the new advanced API call RegGetValue to read string configuration from the Registry.
[ ] The Bat! now uses the new format of Authenticode signatures. The new format provides a description of the signed content and the URL with more information about the signed content.
[ ] New, native Windows Vista file open and save dialogs are used under this version of Windows.
------
The 'new advanced API call RegGetValue' will not work. So stay in the version v3.99.24. This is nice and work with all features. The 'grey icon' - problem is solved in wine up to wines version 0.50.
Trying other versions of The Bat!
by Eugeniu Plamadeala on Monday February 12th 2007, 19:07
If you have a hard time finding a certain version of The Bat! online, try the following way:
Suppose you're searching for: The Bat! v3.65.03 (pattern x_xx_xx)
Then, take the following URL
www.ritlabs.com/download/files3/the_bat/thebat_pro_x-xx-xx.msi and replace the x's with the corresponding numbers.
I've tried this for several older and newer version and it works.
Gray icons

TB! version > 3.5 uses 32bit images, so they are shown as gray on toolbars and folder/message tree if X uses 24bit (limitation of ATI driver)
