What works
Installing works fine with msiexec /i PTEditor17.msi
Sound playback
Printing
Probably everything else too
What does not
Didn't find anything that didn't work.
What was not tested
A lot (the program is *huge*), but the main functionality works excellently.
Additional Comments
After the installation, you have to get msvcirt.dll and save it to the program folder, otherwise PowerTab crashes when you open a file.
Install Times New Roman, Arial, and the Power Tab font (available at www.power-tab.net) into the /windows/fonts directory before trying to install PTE.
If you don't, you'll only see some notes and staves for menus.
Also, make sure you have the following DLL files in your
/windows/system directory, as PTE needs them in order to function
properly. They are:
Copy/Paste File Open Fix
by Robert Bailey on Wednesday September 28th 2011, 13:19
This app needs the native version of msvcirt.dll. This will fix the copy/paste file open crash mentioned in earlier comments.
I am confused about the HowTo above. It says "make sure you have such and such dlls" and tells you to download them. Those would be native dlls, right? And putting them in the windows/system, (or should it be windows/system32?) directory will overwrite the wine builtin dlls, for all apps, right? And some of those dlls are system dlls, which you can't use the native dlls anyway. Or am I wrong?
I think the proper way to set up the native version of msvcirt.dll to fix the file open problem is to copy the downloaded, native version of the dll into the ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Power Tab Software/Power Tab Editor 1.7" directory. Then run winecfg.exe. On the Applications tab add PTEditor.exe. With PTEditor.exe still highlighted go to the Libraries tab. Look in the "New override for library" pull down thingy and select "msvcirt" and click "Add" then "Apply". That will cause PTEditor.exe to use the native version of msvcirt.dll.
No click to open on file->open = crash
by Robert Bailey on Tuesday September 27th 2011, 3:21
I would not rate this app gold.
If you try to open a tab file (file->open) you can navigate through the directory structure just fine by clicking your way through it. But when you try to click a tab file to open it, the program crashes. You can type in the name of the tab file and it will load without problem.
