Additional Comments

Before I began playing, I installed the nvidia restricted drivers to get full hardware acceleration.

20444 Doom3 CD version installer fails instead of asking for another CD UNCONFIRMED View

Native version

A native version of this application exists for GNU/Linux.

HOWTO

if installing from the 3 cd set there is a chance that it wont install all the files or even ask from disk's 2 and 3

use the following command or similar to copy the missing files (from cd2 and 3) to the doom 3 directory

cp -av /media/cdrom/Setup/Data/base/pak00* ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Doom 3/base

use the patch from ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/doom3/win32/DOOM3-1.3.1.exe

to update to 1.3.1 - the game will work without the cd's

still really, really unsure as to how i get the 3 CD version to install, as it never asks to change discs... uh. it seems to be addressed above but i have absolutely no idea how to implement that code to my advantage or what the guy is saying.

thanks everyone!

Transparent Graphics
by John on Saturday October 17th 2009, 17:16
Game runs Great! minor transparent graphics glitches (shadows, glows, fog, flashlight, etc.) all easily undetectable and does not affect normal gameplay.

Another reason to run doom 3 in wine
by rji on Saturday February 16th 2008, 5:10
Due to lack of interest from the the gtkradiant community, there is no native way to convert q1 q2 or q3 .map files to the doom 3 or quake 4 brush primitive format. The editor available in the windows sdk is the only way to do so.

Why is this important? Because the Quake 1 .map files were released under the GPL and could be converted to work with the engine if there were a way to convert q1 brush primitives to d3 brush primitives.

To those that ask "why"?
by dont have one on Tuesday March 13th 2007, 18:05
Well, basically, if something that runs in Windows doesn't run in Linux, that means there's bugs. That means more info to make WINE better in general, so stop complaining. Geez.

1) WINE IS NOT AN EMULATOR (W.I.N.E)

2) Some people (like I use to) like to have the saftey of "fallback compatibility" If you go and buy the linux version, and you go back to windoze, you are stuck with a game you can't play anymore.. If you buy the windows version, you can play it in windows or linux.

I always use to do this, "just in case"
