What works
Single Track Editing, Multitrack editing works, but with some knowlege on how to put settings in. See "What does not work" for details.

What does not

When the program starts, you will see "SQL Server could not find the default instance (MSSQLSERVER) - Please specify the name of an existing existance on the invocation of SQLservr.exe." This is rather consistant per every time the program is opened. It seems to be ok to edit, as listed in "what works"

Another issue is that I get the old "FM static", during the multitrack session editing. Audio does not show through as you place elements in the multitrack. So, it can be said that the audio is not audible, in the proper way. I had to use "device options" (Options--> Device Options) to get the audio to work. You must work around the settings, unlike with Windows. This is a hassle, for those who are not used to fiddling with settings.

A single "Wave Mapper" is your only option, even if using 2 or more separate sound cards.

Also note that the buttons are not legible. You can "Hover" ovr them, to see what button is what. That is the only way to confirm what a button is.

What was not tested
Simple recording, under Ubuntu 9.04, since Haupauge does not give the terminal script, for drivers. The "TAR.GZ" of the pages I attempted to get the script from did not work, and had insufficient instructions to run and placement on Ubuntu.  Since I have a Hauppauge 26xx video card, which imports audio as well, I have no "in line,"which is why tests were not completed. If someone else has made tests, please post the results.

Note that on an earlier version of Ubuntu and WINE, the recording did work. However, the results could be different or the same. inability to test cannot show this though.

Testing Data as of 8-02-09

Additional Comments

Things work, but due to the "work arounds," It's not as "out of the box" as Windows makes it. Drivers to make some parts work, need to be done for Ubuntu (recording into Hauppauge cards). For those who need this program out of the box... sorry. You must fiddle a bit, to get most of the program running, like you run it in Windows.

  • Playback must be limited to 16-bit under Options > Device Properties > Wave Out. If not done, playback will just be white noise.
  • (JACK users only) Audition supports playback via Jack Audio Connection Kit, but crashes when recording through JACK.

Audition 1.5 running under Wine...
by Roberto Hugo Rodríguez Zubieta on Saturday November 21st 2009, 16:11
Hello, I want to clarify that with Wine version 1.1.29 and Audition 1.5 build 4124.1, graph perfectly the audio in the multitrack view , assistant screen captures that show what I affirm; it also reproduces clearly the audio, so much from the multitrack view, like from the view of edition of audio mono or stereo, however so that it happens it is necessary to configure in the options of Audition, inside properties of devices to the wave mapper and to put the reproduction limit in 16 bits, tambíen can be activated the dithering option to 32 bits, like it is shown in one of the captures; the only serious problem that persists, is the correct unfolding of the ícons of the internalls buttons of the program; I have proven it with Jack and it works, like you can appreciate in the quantity of connections settled by Wine between the program and the audio server, however this combination is something unstable (Jack often stops and there is also a delay of some seconds among that we order to reproduce and he begins to make it in sincronism with the editor's graphic part). If we choose in the configuration from Wine to Alsa, as the audio device, then all the problems and uncertainties disappear; I believe that Audition 1.5, under Wine 1.1.29 suffer of a single defect (that of the not well displayed ícons); but it doesn't lose any functionality for I believe it that it should be gone up of category.
I request them pardon if they find something tarzánic my English, result of a mix among Power Translator 7 running fine in Wine and me. The operating system host is Slitaz Linux 2, cooking version, with kernel 2.6.30.4. Greetings!
PD: Sorry, but i can't add the screenshots... no mode...
