The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)
What works
Installation.
What does not
Everything else.
When I try to run the game after installation, Wine complains about a number of .dlls being missing, even though many of the supposed missing .dlls are right in the game's directory, right where the executable is.
What was not tested
Anything beyond installation.
Additional Comments
note from admin: Suggest you seek advice at the forum, http://forum.winehq.org - sounds like you might be doing something wrong.
Install segfaults (Bug 7483), so get your installed dir from a Windows
install (only the Conquer dir, registry/etc is not necessary). Make sure you're copying a PRISTINE game directory, in other words, RIGHT AFTER INSTALLING. If you have started the game at least once, the notes below may not apply as expected. If it doesn't work, just go back and get a clean install. In particular, some of the ScreenModeRecord values in ini/GameSetUp.ini might cause your login window to be truncated. A pristine install would have ScreenModeRecord=0 which is known to work. I believe 0 is 800x600 windowed, 1 is 800x600 full screen, 2 is 1024x768 windowed and 3 is 1024x768 full screen.
Copy the missing DLLs into your c:\windows\system32\ directory: mfc42.dll and msvcp60.dll.
For mfc42.dll, the version found in Win XP SP2 is known to work:
4602907535fd682195dfff9117365826 mfc42.dll
There
are older versions around that do NOT work. In particular, this one
found at dll-files.com produces game crash due to unimplemented functions:
Make sure you're using virtual desktop (enable via winecfg) if you
don't want trouble like bug 7552 and possibly other issues. The rest
can be left as default.
Start the game running "play.exe". Autopatching doesn't work very reliably (sometimes
you'll have to kill it because of confirmation messagebox not having
focus, etc). Just try a few times.
When
you reach the login screen, mouse cursor becomes invisible (see Bug
6250). This is being worked on (thanks Andrew!!). In the meantime you
can workaround that with Henry's patch from http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=5075&action=view .

Won't show login screen.
by Brandon Clemens on Saturday September 19th 2009, 13:09
When I start play.exe it runs fine. Standard definition start. The auto-patcher works when there is an update for the game. After the auto-patch shows up it just stops. Nothing shows up. The virtual desktop closes and that is he end of it.

Patchlevel 4353 works!! (Was: Same problem)
by DJ on Tuesday October 9th 2007, 19:48
Looks like the new additions on 20070814 is what broke us. Those of you that are familiar with the multi-client edit know that this was a big rewrite and the same edit does not work. I tried prog4mer's multi-client executable for 4354+ and it also displays the same behavior. Walking around that movl might work, but wine should be able to handle it (or work around it) if native kernel32 can. I'll BZ it in a few after I try an edit or two.
Got it to work, trying to sort out mouse stuff
by Travis on Monday August 13th 2007, 22:01
I have DirectX 8.1 installed, and I installed Conquer, and made sure I had the two dll's mfc42.dll and msvcp60.dll in windows/system32/ and I got the Chinese font thing simsun I believe it is. For some reason, Conquer needs it if your screen crashes where it says something about loading information please wait. Anyways, with all of the above and a Conquer install, and nothing else(besides wine of course). I got Conquer working to the login screen, Now I just need some serious help with git. To get the mouse patch into wine. I have looked through the stuff on here about git, and they don't really explain how to add a patch, they just give commands and such. Also, about my only other problem, is when I enter my username and password into the misplaced entry boxes, they disappear on my, and the game tells me wrong password and stuff. Any idea how to fix this. Also, if someone might please reply to this with a small howto: on the basic commands that I need to run to get a patch installed, because it has me befundled. Thanks so much.
Got it to work
by Kittie on Wednesday August 8th 2007, 16:41
find simsun.ttf and put it in your wine's font folder. This will allow CO 2.0 to run, the GUI issues still exist, and your mouse is still invis. and you need to use alt to enter your user/pass. But I was able to log into the game, wander around, even kill a few noobies :)
Sound and Login
by Gerro on Friday April 6th 2007, 4:11
I got this error about not finding /usr/bin/esd so I installed esound package and its gone but I still use alsa for conquer and it echos very badly. Also I had error with alsa module called snd_seq so I modprobe it as root before playing else conquer crashes upon loading first screenshot. Then I had error with wine crashing X server and it turned out to be some xorg update replaced over my nvidia drivers. Now I accidentally deleted my entire wine config/registry and conquer keeps saying "wrong account" when I click user/password spots on login prompts.
But would just like to say THANKS omfg I saw it for like 1 minute of game play (ps- never run conquer without emulated desktop doesn't exit right)
Installs ok
by Sebastián BenÃtez on Thursday March 8th 2007, 13:31
I've managed to install it (spanish version) after installing ies4linux (www.tatanka.com.br). Then you have to copy the drive_c and all .reg files inside .ies4linux to a new .wine directory.
After that, I can introduce my username holding ALT and then the password holding ALT too. But the cursor is still invisible and the GUI is all screwed.
Pictures & native debug msgs
by Gerro on Monday January 22nd 2007, 7:33
There are debug logs in /debug in conquer folder and a main one too. Most of them report not loading .ini files right and not being able to display pictures. Perhaps it is a .ini problem with getting blank screens upon loading?
About run the game
by felixjet on Thursday December 14th 2006, 10:00
If you have problems running the game, you dont need to submit a new version telling what you did and adding it dont works. cause is not true. it works. if you cant make it run just write a comment and i will try to help you. but dont submit test's with UR installation faults.
for example, the one who did wineboot's... you dont need to. just follow my instructions and check if works for you. if not, post a comment with your problems and we will try to solve them, but dont submit fake tests.
Cotobo

auto patcher fonts
by Gerro on Wednesday November 15th 2006, 14:11
The auto patcher fonts were working before but now they are not. I don't know why they aren't. I'm using wine 0.9.25 and did an install of conquer, nothing else. I get a load of symbolic jibber but the update bar functions then everything crashes. I think this is a common error with most games, but please help.
RE:
by Gerro on Wednesday November 15th 2006, 14:07
There is an option somewhere to use the normal desktop cursor you use rather than the bland windows default one wine usually uses. That might fix your problem, I mean obviously the mouse IS working so you should be able to find out where it is at on the screen.

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000004 in 32-bit code (0x00401610).

About me and the game
by felixjet on Thursday November 2nd 2006, 12:31
Hi all, im a new maintainer of this game. I play on Spanish Conquer version because im spanish, the game is the same except the language. I run it on 0.9.24 perfectly except the interface problems and the hardware mouse. Currently im trying asking TQ programmers to make a parameter -nomouse to avoid the hardware mouse. Ill post the reply here as soon as i get it. About the interface problems i dont know why the game shows it. If anyone knows the reason about it, feel free to report it :)
Regards to all and lets make this game works 110% in wine ! :D
Now it feels like I'm totally spamming this thread.

OLE problem
by Ulf Abrahamsson on Monday September 18th 2006, 10:09
I am using Wine 0.9.21 on Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake. The game installs nicely. When launched, the game complains about msvcp60.dll and mfc42.dll, so I downloaded those from www.dll-files.com/. After placing them in the windows/system directory, the list of errors got reduced to one. The error was this (for Conquer.exe):
err:ole:CoUninitialize Mismatched CoUninitialize
I also tried to use an alternative game launcher (COtobo), without luck.
Trying to start play.exe crashed wine and this output was given:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000004 at address 0x401610 (thread 0009), starting debugger...
Then follows a long dump.
Conquer.exe is a launcher that first tries to patch the game with any new patches availiable, then starts the game.
It would be great if this was solveable.

Does anyone know how to get Conquer to run on FC5? It installed and auto-patched fine, but when I run play.exe it almost gets to the login screen then closes with no errors. Any ideas?

Run The Game
by Dozza on Friday February 10th 2006, 12:24
Firstly i found that when i downloaded the game from the original conquer 2.0 site, it wouldnt install some key components.
download conquer from a place like download.com.
If you havent already, update your wine version to 0.9.7, i found that conquer only ran on this version.
after that install normally and let it go through some autopatches.
go to the console and type in winecfg to ring up the wine configuration window. find play.exe in the application tab, if it is not there click the add aplication and browse for it.
once added click highlight the application and click the audio tab.
At the bottom change the direct 3D hardware acelleration to Emulation.
Click apply.
start the game in the terminal window so that you can see the errors.
The game window should come up but the mouse wont be visible and will run very slow.
I am still looking for a resolve for themouse problem and will post a thread when i resolve it.
