Avant Browser 10.1, build 40, works under Wine 0.9.10 with a few caveats. The 'Address:' bar jiggles (in both the View->Address Bar and 'Open a link' window). The 'Address:' bar has to be turned off (uncheck the View -> Address Bar checkbox) in order for the browser to start up fully. The up/down rail aren't properly painted, but you can navigate a 'cut-off' page with the up/down or page-up/page-down keys. But in general it works.
Old test results
The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)
What works
Just about everything. Install IE first (using WineTools or the IE install instructions) of course. There is an annoying error message which comes up whenever something is typed in the browser:
But, other than the below items, everything seems to work.
The Wise installer/uninstaller works fine.
Avant.exe - The browser can be run with Wine emulating Win95 - WinXP. Running the browser under the Wine0.9.8 defaults seems to work just fine -- but I'd suggest running it under Win98 emulation. The browser also pops an icon into the SystemTray. See the 'Note' about running AB10.1 under versions of Wine prior to 0.9.8.
What does not
General: None of the main window keyword shortcuts (e.g. Alt+F for 'File', Alt+t for 'Edit', etc.) for the toolbar work. Clicking on them does work, but the keyboard shortcuts are no-goes. The radio or checkboxes show, but don't show as proper radio or checkboxes. The radio and checkbox buttons look more like paint drops when checked. The Address: bar and the 'Open a Link:' dropdown flicker and don't properly display the URL previously input. If the Address: bar is visible, the browser doesn't render properly. It's generally best to turn this off (see View -> Address Bar) when AB first comes up. The AB Options window (Tools -> Avant Browser Options) shows up, but since it's got a varient of the Address: bar, it doesn't fully render. Click somewhere besides the first item on the Options left chooser, and the Options dialog will then fully render itself. Clicking on the first option in the Options dialog will reveal what should have been shown with the Options dialog box is opened.
2) And turn-off the 'Address' bar (View->Address Bar). Once you turn-off the 'Address' bar, the UI seems to start responding more correctly (not perfectly, but more correctly).
3. Change to the Avant Browser install directory (default location is C':Program FilesAvant Browser').
4. Start the browser:
wine avant.exe
(See Note above if you're using a pre-0.9.8 Wine version)
5. The browser will start and a splash screen will be displayed. It'll appear the browser has stopped.
6. Click the 'View' toolbar menuitem and uncheck the 'Address Bar' option. If you can't see the toolbar, just click where the toolbar would be. Eventually, you'll a toolbar menuitem, and the other ones should show. Click 'View' and uncheck the 'Address Bar' option.
