Crashing
by Jonathan on Tuesday February 19th 2013, 15:18
Yuri's Revenge is crashing on me fairly frequently. A dialog box will come up that says: "Yuri's Revenge has encountered an internal error and is unable to continue normally." Sometimes it crashes in-game like this and often while trying to load a saved skirmish. Does anyone know what this would be caused by?
Thanks.

Still doesn't work
by Ruben Miller on Tuesday September 18th 2012, 23:49
Hello,

I tried emulating a virtual desktop as you stated, but it still doesn't work. I can play the skirmish all day long, but the campaign mode doesn't work for Red Alert 2. I have wine version 1.4.

Yuri is Slow/Skipping
by McMaster on Saturday May 26th 2012, 12:38
I get into a skirmish fine, but the game runs very slow. The strange thing is that units only move on the screen while I'm moving my mouse around. I can send a unit to move, and the screen will stay stagnant; if I move my mouse a few seconds later, the screen will refresh as if the guy was moving the whole time. also the Cursor cuts in and out. If i try to click the Menu button, the game freezes. Any ideas?

Campaigns
by psytrox on Sunday March 4th 2012, 21:53
I also just noticed that I am unable to click on the pictures to enter a campaign mode, in both RA2 and Yuri's Revenge. In Yuri's, the icons seem darkened, as if unavailable. In RA2, it seems like they are normal, but nothing happens when I click to select soviet or allied campaign. Any ideas on this problem?

Display issue
by psytrox on Sunday March 4th 2012, 15:14
RA2, Yuri's Revenge, and RA3 all are running fine for me now. I had to modify some things, but I notice one problem with Yuri's Revenge. I can navigate fine, and get in a skirmish, but the menu part has the bottom cut off. I can see it from the splash screen with "Loading..." on it, until the game is actually loaded with MCV and units on-screen. So, the only problem is that I have to click at the bottom right corner of the screen to continue or exit Yuri's, but cannot see the buttons down there(same with the "Westwood" on the splash screen. It is cut off (too tall for the screen/not scaling correctly)). I have messed with the resolutions, and checked the .ini files for clues to manually changing a value that may affect the splash/menu display, but cannot see anything relevant(that I'm aware of). RA2 displays fine all the time. Thanks for any help.

dll override
by Max Roder on Friday September 23rd 2011, 12:27
To avoid adding a general override rule using winecfg, just start yuri like this after copying wsock32.dll to windows/system32/:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="wsock32=n" wine "YURI.exe"

Curiously, for me the regedit "patch" itself slowed down gameplay considerably. I experienced several speed problems using the latest wine 1.3.28. Downgrading to 1.3.27 solved them all (repeatable). Maybe this also affects Red Alert 2?

Slowdowns not fixed
by Sam on Tuesday June 14th 2011, 19:05
Running the game in colour depth 16 bit does not fix the lag issues.

The game has been slow in Wine since version 0.9.16 as per the bug 5526 bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5526.

There is a patch available by Stefan Dösinger made for some old versions of Wine, but no new patches.

Can anything else be done?

No mouse pointer in the menus
by Alexander Godumov on Saturday August 14th 2010, 11:43
Hi there. Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge work fine for me except that i don't have mouse pointer in the menus. In the game itself i have the standard white pointer. Wine is version 1.1.42 in Debian Unstable.

Yuri Revenge Load Problem - Help
by Don D on Thursday March 11th 2010, 18:15
Okay, I purchased a computer from a friend of mine and have been playing Red Alert 2 on it (it was already installed) I admit, i absolutely love this game. I purchased the expansion pack, Yuri's Revenge, and when I put the CD in - it loads and tells me "Authentification Failed, i must install Red Alert 2".. Red Alert works fine... and maybe its in the wrong folder, or it could be a pirated copy, i don't know....but the Yuri is original... Is there a way around this.... I would love to play the expansion..

Hi I installed Yuri's Revenge under Wine 1.1.14 running on Ubuntu 8.10 on my Ideapad S10. When running under XFCE the total linux crashes (the only thing i can do is pressing the power button long) after loading game data when moving the cursor.

When starting a second xserver e.g. with twm i can play the game but it's really slow (slower than on first screen). My friend tried the same and for him the game is running pretty fast on the second xserver (the problems above with freezing the system are the same on his Acer Aspire One, instead of Ubuntu he is using Arch Linux). For getting it running that fast he didn't apply the registry changes for direct3d and disabled all graphics acceleration in wincfg. I tried the same, but still it is not playable. But for him it is...

So what could i try to get it running that fast?

Lan working
by Divider on Monday August 25th 2008, 3:39
www.understorm.net/cnc/lan/cnc95_ra1_lanpatch_1_01.zip

That lan patch will work 100%.

Under winecfg,

add the library wsock32.dll by entering it manually and hit add.

make sure that the wsock32.dll is in your RA2 directory.

it will no longer require you to have IPX installed.

It will use UDP protocol and work with windows machines.

Yuri Revenge Install
by David Drahos on Monday July 14th 2008, 20:52
I try to run setup.exe by using 'wine setup.exe' and 'wine R:/setup.exe' but they both give me a box titled 'DirectX Error' with the messege 'Action not supported', this followed by another window titled 'Yuri's Revenge Setup' with the messege 'Could not initialize DirectX.'. The Red Alert 2 setup worked fine but this isn't working.

Fedora 7 install and speed issues
by Keith on Thursday October 4th 2007, 15:57
Hi there,

I found this wine site very difficult to navigate, so I had to do my own research and experiments with running Yuri.

I thought I will post it here for anyone also using Fedora 7. The wine RPMs that comes for Fedora, comes with the debugger compiled in, which in effect means that you will not be able to install Yuri's revenge straight off the disk. So you have 2 options, either compile wine from source, or (the "easiest") if you have a spare windowz box somewhere to install it over there and then copy the whole westwood folder over to your machine.

For sake of sanity, make sure that you have a no-cd crack for Yuri, otherwise your units will bom within a couple of seconds of playing any mission or skirmish...

I found that the playing speed was dreadful even with a duo core 3Ghz machine and 2GB of RAM and a monster Geforce 8 card. Some further investigation led me to the problem. The game can only play at a colour depth of 16BPP while X is running a 32BPP. Set your colour depth of your desktop to 16BPP and now the game will be super!

O yes, if you have trouble finding the cracks for the game, go over to www.megagames.com

Ciao

Installer issues
by Liam Fishwick on Tuesday July 4th 2006, 12:53
Does anyone else have the following issue when trying to install YR:

I can get the installer running (have RA2 patched etc) however, when it actually gets to the point of copying data over, it is telling me insufficient diskspace, yet it hasn't asked for a location to install, and there is about 5gb free where its trying to install (which is plenty for this game)

"Initialisation failed. Please reinstall!" on start
by TobiasPolzer on Wednesday June 14th 2006, 7:25
I have followed the instruction given on this page and appdb.winehq.org/commentview.php?appId=167&versionId=252&threadId=11201 but when trying to start the game I only get "Initialisierung fehlgeschlagen. Bitte erneut installieren" (I only have the German version of the game) which I'd translate to "Initialisation failed. Please reinstall"

My units all blow up
by Sterling Christensen on Sunday March 19th 2006, 9:04
I followed the instructions to the letter and my units all blow up!

My copy is legitimate, I entered my serial from the case, and I installed the first no-cd crack from that megagames crack link in the howto - so there's no reason it shouldn't be working!
