What works
The loader works perfectly
The application appears to work perfectly also. Communication with the router is fine. All options open new windows as required and functions update the router configuration as required.
What does not
I ran the loader application from a terminal window ('wine winbox.exe').
The terminal window then acts as a sort of system console, reporting error messages. These are many and varied but are almost all of the form:
ot of order ack seq expected nnnn received nnnn
where the expected and received digits are the same.
As I have mentioned, the application seems to work flawlessly so these error messages are dysfunctional.
What was not tested
As I originally had a NEED to use winbox and had no window$ machine available, every window option has been tested although not all router functionality invoked. Personally I would rate this as 'seems to work but not fully tested' as I have not undertaken a comprehensive suite of tests (yet).
Additional Comments
application was loaded under wine by its own installer which was a window$ executable - so whether 'installs' is a 'Yes' or an 'N/A' is open to conjecture. The 'installer' downloads the app from a router and is NOT a conventional Window$ installer application.
Not sure how to rate - app works fine for me save for error messages thrown up on console which are non-functional but is not comprehensively tested.

Winbox under Wine...

This _used_ to work. Now it does _not_.
The Mikrotik guys (see the Mikrotik forum) think that there is a bug in wine. I have tried this extensively under Wine 0.9.43 (using Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Workstation) and 0.9.42 (using FC6). In both cases the issue is the same: Once Winbox is loaded, no keyboard or mouse functions can get any operations to work. The initial window for entering ip address, username, password etc DOES work, apparently without problems. The main window, however, appears to be 'frozen'.
It does not matter what version of windows you tell wine to pretend to be (I have not tried older than win98 which I use as default), nor whether you use a dedicated wine desktop, nor what the ActiveX settings are.
It was I who originally posted the fact that winbox worked under wine, being very pleased at that time. Subsequently, however, my hard drive died and I had to re-build the machine and have never been able to get it working again. I should consider downgrading wine if this cannot be resolved soon as the only window$ program I use is winbox!
