How it works with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS

I tried a lot of things, but nothing worked - IE didn't want to install, so the rest didn't work.

Then I found wiki.ubuntuusers.de/ElsterFormular - this worked fine, I just had to install a new version of wine (0.9.20), as described in wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Wine#head-40713bf93227eef67d88a1f5f5c97ba9058d7b2e . The one that ships with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (0.9.9) does NOT work.

Some Updates to Michael Büttners Instruction

Wine 0.9.18 already seems to include DCOM98 so I havnt had to install it.

For the next steps Windows 98 doesnt work anyway, so I used WinXP to install MDAC and JET and for running Elster Formular.

For step b, I've just installed Internet Explorer instead of updating the registry.

If you install Elster Formular like you can even transmit the form. Somehow the application window isnt shown at the taskbar so Im using ALT+TAB. The inline help also doesnt work, as mentioned before. This is because Wine doesnt support chm and I couldnt find a way for adding it.

Works just fine

That's what I did on a clean .wine directory:

a.get DCOM98 (download.microsoft.com/download/d/1/3/d13cd456-f0cf-4fb2-a17f-20afc79f8a51/DCOM98.EXE), install it (winver == win98). 'WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ole32=n" wine DCOM98.EXE'
MDAC (see next step) seems to need DCOM installed, not sure why
b. change registry to look like you have IE installed, like that: Write
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer]
"Version"="6.0.2900.2180"
in a file and 'wine regedit FILENAME'
c. get MDAC (download.microsoft.com/download/a/b/9/ab965707-fbab-48bc-8c33-a4cfd44255c6/MDAC_TYP.EXE), install it. Seems to work out of the box: 'wine MDAC_TYP.EXE'
d. get JET (www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4335216c-8cdd-4168-a030-46f815d3f5cd),
install it. Seems to work out of the box: 'wine Jet40SP8_9xNT.exe'
e. install ElsterFormular.exe: 'wine ElsterFormular.exe'. clickety click ... done!
f. run it 'wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/ElsterFormular2005/Elfo2005.exe'

That's it. ElsterFormular installs without MDAC and JET, but there are some things you cannot do without it (like transmitting the form).
Oh, the help subsystem does not work (it's based on .chm - no idea about that)
