This is the artfully balanced first-person shooter/real-time strategy hybrid based on the original Half-Life engine.
Two
player teams, one consisting of marines and one consisting of aliens,
battle for control of a map and to eliminate the opposing team. The
marine team is based around a central commander who views the game from
a top-down view and manages his team's strategy and resources. The
alien team shares what is visible for all alien members amongst
teammates and has instantaneous communication of combat alerts to all
team members.
This is the latest version as of 2 March, 2007.

Additional Comments
FPS is extremely important in this game.
It is much easier to bunnyhop (which is essential for the games balance) with 100 fps, in Windows I get 111fps, in wine my fps is all over the place - but still completely playable to a non-competitive level.

Strange crash
by Greg Simoes on Saturday April 14th 2007, 17:19
I'm running on Ubuntu Edgy Eft, currently when I run NS the game ALWAYS crashes if I choose the marine side in regular NS maps (not sure about combat). If I select alien side it runs fine. I have no idea what is causing that, if marines it literally runs for a few seconds (under a minute, but duration varies) and then crashes out, if I play aliens I can play for hours and never have a problem (aside from the standing voice communication glitch). Any ideas on this?
It has happened under wine 0.9.32, 0.9.34 and now 0.9.35
my launch string is:
wine "C:\Program Files\valve\Steam\steam.exe" -novideo
