Installation guide:

  1. Set version to Windows 2000
  2. Set odbc32 and odbccp32 to native
  3. Install Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1
  4. Download Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 (SP8) for Windows 95/98/NT 4.0 (newer won't work)
    and run:

    wine Jet40SP8_9xNT.exe /Q
    wine odbcconf /f "c:\windows\system32\jetodbc.rsp"
  5. Run Protel setup. In Setup Type screen choose Custom and uncheck NT Drivers
  6. Install SP6
  7. Do some nasty things here
  8. Done. It should work.


What does not

  • Minor: schematic isn't properly redrawed when moving toolbars over the sheet (other views are fine)
  • Minor: maximized MDI windows go into unmaximized state when switching windows through Window menu
  • Program help (unhandled remote winhelp command)
  • Recycle bin ("Cannot open AVI")
  • Autorouter often aborts with access violation

Installation Procedure

* Set wine version to Windows 2000

* Install MDAC 2.8 SP1 & Jet 4.0 (SP8)

wget www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
chmod +x winetricks
./winetricks mdac28 jet40

* Run Protel Setup. In the Setup Type screen choose Custom and uncheck NT Drivers
* Install SP6

* PS. Installer crashed with DCOM98 installed

HOWTO please

I've tried to follow your instructions, but can't manage to make data bases to work. Could you please post step by step "HOWTO"? A list of terminal commands would be nice so the copy/paste method could be implemented. :P
