24701 Vampire the Masquerade bloodlines hanging with Out of adapter memory UNCONFIRMED View

HOWTO

If you get the following error and performance issues:

fixme:d3d_surface:fb_copy_to_texture_direct Doing a pixel by pixel copy from the framebuffer to a texture, expect major performance issues

Adding the following Registry key should help:

HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D: OffscreenRenderingMode = "fbo"

Also if you have a black menu when the game starts, or graphic errors, you can set the following Registry Key:

HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D: UseGLSL = "disabled"

(this also increases the performance strongly)

(see http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys for further information)

by Koller David Daniel on Monday June 13th 2011, 9:10
I change dir to the game dir, then lauch the vampire exe. Here is what i get:
$ wine vampire.exe
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32e134,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:d3d:swapchain_init Add OpenGL context recreation support to context_validate_onscreen_formats

It is very strange that the game wont give any more lifesings, and just hangs on loading.

Im using wd of 800x600, orm and glsl are set, wineprefix is empty only this game is there, with 7.5 fanpatch, no crack.

Character models
by Arty on Saturday November 6th 2010, 15:56
Hey everyone,

I'm using the latest wine in 64bit with Radeon 5700

Everything looks great except no character models appear. The intro looks like something from the Invisible Man. Any information on what might the problem would be greatly appreciated!

Floating floor textures/chaos architecture?
by Alessa Morgendorffer on Thursday August 12th 2010, 23:23
For some reason, the floors and walls at various points in the tutorial quest seem to float around or fall over. It doesn't render the game unplayable by any means (so far, at least), but it seems like it'd be a major nuisance if it continues in the actual game.

Any idea what's causing this, and/or if it's just in the tutorial?

I'm running ArchLinux x64 with nVidia drivers, offscreen rendering set to "backbuffer", and GLSL on, for what that's worth. Everything else seems to work just fine, I'm not having any performance issues...

If you are in a 64 bit system and can't use the opengl driver
by i30817 on Wednesday March 31st 2010, 22:15
bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ia32-libs/+bug/248392

It might because of that bug.
I've avoided it by using in the console
export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib32/dri

before running the game in the console too.

Keyboard controls are gone in wine 1.1.35
by ML on Sunday January 3rd 2010, 18:53
Hello everybody,

I dug out "Vampire - Bloodlines" (a really cool game) and experienced a well known problem: in earlier days, it was easy to workaround the "keyboard does not respond"-bug by turning the virtual desktop on. But this does not seem to work any longer.

"GLSL" and "OffsreenRenderingMode" are set correctly, and - what is very interesting - the game worked fine after I started it the first time... but now (after reloading a saved game), the controls are gone.

Is there anybody who has experienced the same issue? Has anybody found a solution, yet?

Greetings
ML

Stuck on Loading Screen - Ubuntu Karmic
by Steve on Thursday November 19th 2009, 14:12
Hey everybody, I've made it pretty far in getting Bloodlines to work, but it seems I have one issue left. The game seems to get stuck on the loading screen right after you make a new character. The first little bar on the bottom loads all the way, but the second one does not progress at all. I then have to alt-tab and kill the process. Everything runs fine before that: the character models load when you create a new character, and nothing locks up or crashes. I'm running Karmic, with the latest updates, as well as the latest version of Wine (1.1.33). The two registry entries are there, as well as patch 1.2, the nocd crack, and the unofficial patch 6.6. Has anybody else run into this error, or have any idea what it may be?

No Taxi
by Samuel Nelson on Sunday August 23rd 2009, 20:15
Installing the base game worked great, but be careful when installing mods. I added the PnP + Clans mod, the PnP Combat Addon, and I believe Silent Masque was the only other mod I installed ... somewhere in those three, I gained a solid ton of bugs. Most of the time, reverting to an earlier saved game worked, but in the case of the missing taxi after the warehouse mission, even starting a whole new game didn't fix it.

I'm running through on vanilla (plus the official and unofficial patches) to make sure that it really was the mods. If that doesn't work, I may have to remove the unofficial patch.

I don't know if this will help anybody but I managed to run the game installed from vista (where I couldn't get it to run).
It's pretty much playable with few problems described above.

Loading New Game
by Scott on Wednesday April 29th 2009, 22:15
I originally had problems installing the game, but managed to install it thanks to the help of Rafal (Copying all of the three cd files to one directory and then running the setup/installer).

Secondly, The menu was black. The HOWTO helped me to fix that (along with changing the window application version for vampire.exe to Windows XP).

Thanks guys for the help. However...

Problem Three:
I tried to start a new game by clicking on "New Game" in the menu. The load screen appears, but 2 seconds after the game crashes.

Can anybody help me out?

NOTE: I applied the 1.2 patch after this happened (no change)

menu problem
by Zero Ms on Thursday October 9th 2008, 17:01
I found a way to get the menu working correctly. Just set UseGLSL to "disabled". That should get the menu displaying how it should.

Doesn't start
by Dheart on Tuesday May 20th 2008, 10:54
When I start the game it spits in the console:

fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33e1e4,0x00000000), stub!

fixme:d3d9:IDirect3DDevice9Impl_CreateTexture (0x12ddb8) call to IWineD3DDevice_CreateTexture failed

And I got a gray screen that says: "Loading..." and nothing more... I've tried waiting it for a minute and then I just kill it...
Any workarounds?

Some information about the patch chaos
by Reverse Beartrap on Sunday December 30th 2007, 14:35
The official patch 1.2 is availible at download.activision.com/bloodlines/vtmb_1_2.exe
This patch still leaves the game buggy and incomplete, so there is a fanmade patch at www.planetvampire.com/bloodlines/files/patches/
This patch was critisized for changing too large portions of the game without need, so a "true" fanpatch forked off at tessmage.com [nsfw]
The developers of the first fanpatch also reacted to the critic and now only install a basic version of the patch by default, the additional content being optional.

I hope this helped to clear up things a little.

Cant install :(
by Dínchamion on Saturday December 8th 2007, 15:17
Installer starts fine, but after a little while at one of the mp3s (according to the statusbar) it freezes with the message "Error: -1603 A fatal error is occured during installation. See Windows Installer 's help or MSDN for other informations."

From that on I have to kill manually the process.

I'm using Ubuntu Gutsy.

Overclockers beware
by Ben Anderson on Thursday November 29th 2007, 18:39
This game is VERY overclock sensitive, especially when running under Wine. If the game is crashing randomly and you have overclocked hardware somewhere in your system, try turning down your overclock or disabling it altogether.

This game is reaaaally unstable and buggy, even running natively under Windows. Remember that. ;)
