Old test results
The test results for this version are very old, and as such they may not represent the current state of Wine. Please consider submitting a new test report.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)

What works

Installed using Wineskin Winery 2.5.8, using only defaults: created empty wrapper, install game from DVD (US version 1.0 with starforce copy protection).

Applied starforce patch from net (sorry, do not remember anymore where that was from) also using wineskin to run the .bat file.

Everything seems to be working fine including gamepad. Have not played the game to the end though. Could change resolution to native 1650x1050 (Macbook Pro).

What does not

Not platinum because game has copy protection (star force).

Wine problems with gamepads are only partially a game problem:

Playstation 3 dualshock controller (original, OEMs are not working with Mac OS X 10.8 driver) does not work fully out of the box with Dreamfall. All buttons and analog sticks work, but the D-Pad can not be configured in Dreamfall because it is represented as 4 buttons, but Dreamfall only accepts a Hatswitch type HID element for the D-Pad.

Workaround: Used ControllerMate to define a virtual GamePad with just a Hatswitch. No registration required ($25) to do that. Would be nice if wine would also support remapping of buttons to Hatswitch.

What was not tested
Game to the end

Additional Comments

Older wrapper on paulthetall.com did not allow to install from DVD (crashed, had to use pre-installed windows-XP version of game), also did not work with gamepad. Nice to see how much latest wine works out of the box.

HOWTO
These are the tips and tricks you must do in order to fully play the game at a way that is desirable.

1st - Install the game :)

2nd - Find and download the file 'd3dx9_27.dll' and copy that to your ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Funcom/Dreamfall Folder via terminal or File Manager.

3rd - Open up your terminal and execute this command - 'wine regedit' That should bring up a window. Follow these instruction as '+' means to expand that folder.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER +
               Software +
                      Wine +
                         Direct3D

I may be wrong, but you may have to create a new key for Direct3D , but that's easy. Right click and go to new key and than fill in the supplied area with 'Direct3D'

Now finally go into the right part of the regedit where it says name and just under that right click and create another key name USEGLSL. When you're done doing that double click the file you just created and type disabled when prompted for a dialog box.
Don't close regedit for now you'll need it for the next step.

4th (OPTIONAL) - I've heard this from a few forums I've entered and it seems to do an interesting thing on the games I've encountered so I might as well share this information. It supposedly increases fps in games by bypassing the errors which are usually running in the background of a game. Inquiry into this matter hasn't been verified by me, but as soon as I run some tests I'll be sure to update ASAP.

Anyways This is how you acquire the effect.

Find a folder somewhere on your drive where you'd like to run a script for running a game each time you play it, preferably the desktop in most cases. Now that you've done that create a new document name 'Dreamfall.sh' and continue on to edit that file.

The contents of this file should be as follows

WINEDEBUG=fixme-all wine C:/Program\ Files/Funcom/Dreamfall/dreamfall.exe

Alright now save that file and now right click on it and go to Properties - Permissions - Click - Alow Executing of this file.

And that's all, if you follow these options effectively you should be able to play the game perfect or close to it.

Have fun!

Works fine with wine 1.3.0
by Chris on Thursday September 30th 2010, 16:50
Hello,

i installed Dreamfall. I bought the cheap German Version: "Adventure Collection 3" and the Game installed fine. I just copy the
d3dx9_27.dll file from antoher game into the windows/system32 folder. And use regedit to set this Settings:

"DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl"
"OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo"
"UseGLSL"="enabled"
"VideoMemorySize"="512"

The game works fully fine, without a nocd-patch. I used a nocd-patch the first time, cause i read about it will be needed. But the game crashed with these DrawDevice (?) Messages that here are complained. Perhaps the cheap Version i bought has no copy protection or wine could deal with it. I don't know.

I just would say that i play the whole game to End, and it work fine. The Controller was supported as well. It was awesome.

If you like Adventures that play fine in wine try Dreamfall.

About the first Part, The longest Journey: I played this with a Version of Cedega 7.1.0.

Dreamfall crashes when the game is starting
by Przemek on Friday September 18th 2009, 19:37
Hi,
I thought it'd be fun to install and run Dreamfall on Linux but it isn't :-(

I followed the HowTo and every time I start the game, it's fine to start with. The opening advertisements are a bit sluggish, but ok. The whole menu works and changing settings works too. The problem comes when I click on New Game. The game starts loading and then it dies every time in the same place, before it's fully loaded. The last output in the terminal is:
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_arb_load_np2fixup_constants Nonexistent texture is flagged for NP2 texcoord fixup

And before that line there are loads of "fixme:d3d9:D3DPERF_ Events". I'm using a no-cd crack otherwise the game wouldn't start at all. I copied the d3dx9_27.dll from my windows installation. I installed Dreamfall with PlayOnLinux and used 2 different wine versions: 1.1.29 and 0.9.53 (below someone said the game worked perfectly on the latter).

I tried to google the error message but no luck. Any ideas how I could work around this error?

Cheers

thePatric, EnumDisplayDevicesW is an old bug that doesn't really have to do with monitors, as far as I know. It might just be the fact that we are both using NVIDIA cards that is preventing us from running the game...

It freakin' doesn't work
by thePatric on Friday May 1st 2009, 12:27
No chance. I did the registry-thing, I put the files into the system32 and even the Dreamfall folder, I reinstalled Wine completely because STARFORCE messed up the installation, and it won't help.
The game crashes, asks me to contact Funcom, and the console says this:

fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x1a4d46c,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x1a4d740,0x00000000), stub!

fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x1a4d50c,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:winmm:MMDRV_Exit Closing while ll-driver open

Perhaps it's the fact that my monitor isn't being detected my nvidia driver, then "EnumDisplayDevices" would make sense...

Warning!
by egasimus on Thursday January 15th 2009, 9:40
The original exe's copy protection might botch your entire wineprefix in wine-1.1.12, and it won't work, anyway. Beware!

6gb install bug
by egasimus on Wednesday July 30th 2008, 2:57
I've tried the solutions from TLJ's forum, I've played around with Program Files' path in Regedit, but, whatever I do, the installer shows a "Not enough space" message, which loops infinitely. Could anyone help me?

I' followed the ubove directions. It then complained of not finding the cd (which I don't have). Patching it to 1.64 (www.strategyinformer.com/pc/patches/dreamfallthelongestjourney/patch.html ), it goes further but crashes:

I have a radeonhd 3650 and fglrx 8.4 (officially supported, but I read that there aren't significant changes from 8.3 which doesn't have explicit support). Should I try an earlier version of wine or the game, or just wait for the drivers to get updated (ubuntu 8.04)?

remark for version 0.9.60
by Wouter Cox on Friday April 25th 2008, 0:18
I forgot to add that the cell phone skin 'works' now;
that is, it looks gray as it should, in certain previous version of wine (e.g. 0.9.46) the cell phone had a blue/purple color, as if the 'skin' was not applied (correctly).

Doesn't work...
by Yorghos on Wednesday February 20th 2008, 10:00
On Ubuntu 7.10, 32bit, with wine 0.55.

I've done all the above, including the .dll file, and the registry values, but it just changes my resolution then crashes with "Dreamfall crashed, report saved to...".

"UseGLSL"="disabled" Not needed anymore
by Bernd Buschinski on Tuesday February 5th 2008, 7:30
As the topic says..
"UseGLSL"="disabled" is not needed anymore it works fine with at least current git.
So with wine 0.9.55 platium? :)

I never saw the cellpohne bug, it always worked fine for me, just the savegames screenshots dont work, and oh yeah the missing d3dx9_27.dll

Gold!
by Hermes Hall on Thursday January 17th 2008, 6:16
Using wine 0.9.53 on Ubuntu 7.10, it works perfect! Ingame Videos (on TVs etc) work now, Graphics, Sound & Speech are flawless.

Howto:

* In user.reg, add this (thanx Rheanna!):
[Software\\Wine\\Direct3D] 1197612914
"UseGLSL"="disabled"

* In the Dreamfall game directory, add d3dx9_27.dll (from windows/system32)

* Use a nocd dreamfall.exe

(the cell phones still have a blueish color, and the preview pics for savegames dont work, but thats all)

Rating: Plat
by Christopher Harvey on Monday December 31st 2007, 4:39
I would submit test results for this but I'm using wine 0.9.46 and I can't select that when submitting data anymore. Anyway, Under gentoo amd64 bit wine 0.9.46 with default settings in a virtual desktop the game runs perfectly. (I really mean _perfectly_) No crashes, good performance, videos work, audio synced with lips. Even heat waves on fires. Just remember the no-cd cra...err..patch.

No character models anymore
by Lani on Thursday December 13th 2007, 23:43
Title says it all. Game used to load perfectly - music, characters, etc. with some flawed highlighting now and again. As of .50, the character models no longer load, making the game somewhat unplayable.

Game crashes in 0.9.49 WINE
by Jonathan Rosen on Saturday November 24th 2007, 12:14
Here's the Wine error I get:

fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x34d518,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_CheckDeviceMultiSampleType Quality levels unsupported at present

fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_SetSoftwareVertexProcessing (0x1541d0) : stub

I think they are just regular wine 'fixme's, but I'm going to downgrade wine to see if that helps.

I have that too
by Wouter Cox on Monday May 7th 2007, 8:35
I have that too but I didn't report it since I thought I was the only way experiencing this, my guess was that this had to do with a "Hardware Cursor" setting I once changed (when trying to get XGL Compiz/Beryl to work). If memory serves me right, 0.9.35 also had this cursor.

Can anyone else confirm if this is a real bug?

Moouse right in the middle
by Hawk Anonymous on Friday May 4th 2007, 8:37
Hi,
I am using Wine v. 0.9.36 and at all time I have a mouseicon right in the middle of my screen but the normal mouse work. Do not know where its from or what to do against it.
Besides this point the game runs really fine. Even my P2600 works with it.

Speech does work in emulation mode
by Wouter Cox on Sunday April 15th 2007, 8:17
For my entry of Dreamfall with wine 0.9.35: speech does work, if you set the "Hardware Acceleration" to 'Emulation' in the Audio section of winecfg .

This test data does not sound like Gold to me
by Neil Thomson on Sunday March 25th 2007, 4:00
The rating Definition for Gold is: "Application works flawlessly with some DLL overrides or other settings, crack etc."

The graphical glitches reported on March 11th 2007 (ubuntu 6.10) sound rather more like bronze (or maybe silver) to me. Bronze definition: "Application works, but it has some issues, even for normal use; a game may not redraw properly or display fonts in wrong colours, be much slower than it should etc."

Gold is flawless and this game is not yet flawless

Graphical glitches
by Tan Kah Ping on Saturday August 12th 2006, 10:20
With Wine 0.9.19 Dreamfall can be made to run but with graphical glitches.

If vertex shaders are enabled to 'hardware' or 'emulation' it runs stably, but you get a black screen. Fonts seem to render perfectly fine (i can see the subtitles) and some 'particle effects' can be seen but everything else is completely black which renders the game unplayable.

If vertex shaders are disabled, more graphical objects can be seen on-screen but the game is very unstable and will crash before you get to play it.

Sound seems to be fine. The company logo intros are very slow and has stuttery sound, but the game itself seems to have no sound problems (so far)

Running Dreamfall
by Tan Kah Ping on Sunday July 30th 2006, 2:53
The game doesn't run at all unless a cracked .exe is used to bypass the copy protection. After that I had to copy over d3dx9_27.dll from my Windows XP partition.

The game spews out a bunch of errors to console and gives me a "Dreamfall has crashed" messagebox.

Should i attach the output that i saved? How do i go about with this? the comments doesn't seem to allow me to attach any files
