Additional Comments

If you encounter with:

starting the game, aborts with: internal error

Erase the bio3.ini, try wine from console and dont use virtual desktop, no vertex shader, no pixel shader... is a old game, disable all you can from winecfg, is like starcraft!!!.

some videos have small problems:

Videos dont work

Invisible player and enemies. or 3d models of characters and zombie are invisible, so i can play the game:

Hummm no, old problem, not any more.

The introduction scene presents corrupted images:

Try F2, the game is for 320x240 not even 640x480, even in virwindows the textures sourfaces have lite white boxes too, and the F2 close the game but the config saves.

Characters Visible

Well, after trying a lot of configuration, there are 2 ways to make the 3D polygons visible, the firs one, was written on the section of "Gamestar Resident Evil 3". The other is with a 3Dfx wrapper...

The first one is by editing the "bio3.ini" file located on the game folder: Program files\Capcom\Resident Evil\. You just have to change these values to on: DisableMovie=off ,DisableAlpha=off ... so it will look like:
DisableMovie=on
DisableAlpha=on
I also recommend to have the TextureAdjust on off... (so there don't appears those weird lines)
The only bad thing about this configuration is that the game will look horrible, and with no effects... like fire or whatever...

The Second one is a bit better, but also with some issues:
You need to have installed "zeckensack's Glide wrapper" it works pretty well with some games.
Having this wrapper installed and configured to match your preferences... you will have to edit the bio3.ini file located in Program files\Capcom\Resident Evil\. Change the word "NULL" to "glide2x" and there you go. Save the file and start the game, you will realize that the resolution set on that file will not apply, I mean... doesn't matter if you change the resolution to 1024X768 or 800X600, it will always play on 640x480. Now you can see the characters, but the 2D effects will have a black or white box, so to eliminate this you will have to disable the Aplha (read above, on the first solution) Also the edges wont look verry smooth.

In conclusion, I think that the problem with the wrapper fix is that it always play on 16 bits colors (this happen to me on windows) so if you can find a way to play on 32 bits colors then you will have the full game working. I tried with dgVoodoo but it doesn't work under Wine (XP and 98)

PD: I think is easier to play it with a psx emulator and a iso file ;-)
but we are here to make it work under Wine!!!
