This game and registry modification will definitely work and run on a real Windows installation, but only if the Windows OS and C: drive are located together on the same physical partition and drive as the boot drive. Wine's fake drive_c drive is not acceptable to this game for some reason.
The CD missing problem can be prevented by copying the game directory to drive E: but then further display errors occur and game exits back to terminal window.
