When Steam is installed go to My Games, right click on darwinia and click install. Then say okay to any following windows.
Once Darwinia is downloaded open Wine File (in Fedora it is applications>system tools>Wine File) and browse to C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOURUSERNAME\darwinia where YOURUSERNAME is your steam username.
Open preferences.txt and find the line that says
SoundLibrary = anyvalue where anyvalue can be anything (it should be DSP)
simply change the line to say
SoundLibrary = null
then save preferences.txt and darwinia will run fine.

Additional Comments
Won't start. I click launch in the steam menu and nothing happens.
This is a shame, a while back it worked flawlessly, but was a little slow. I now have a faster computer, and it doesn't work anymore :(
