which file was removed?
by Dylan on Sunday March 7th 2010, 13:23
Could the maintainers explain the process by which they got it to work? With .40, it crashes for me on display of the first menu, where you can choose "start new," "load," etc.

Thanks.

AVI file crash
by Julius Schwartzenberg on Sunday January 24th 2010, 17:57
The avifile related crashes should be fixed with the latest Wine version (1.1.37). In my limited testing, I did not encounter any crashes when playing the intros or counseling the in-game advisors.

The in-game advisors do still have some graphical glitches.

To get around the intro crash in older Wine version, you can use a native avifil32 (from WinXP).

The game seems to start well when is opened from Wine File, but once that you are ready to begin playing, it closes.

No-CD Patch
by Wain Hopkins on Thursday June 29th 2006, 16:03
I couldn't find a no-CD patch that worked. Just a .COM that wine wouldn't run.

But the good news is that you don't need one! Just run autorun.exe off the CD and tell it play. I set drive D to /mnt/cdrom but I don't know if that's nessisary.

For me, though, the civ2 exe wont run period w/o first running autorun. I applied the patch for it thinking it'd fix it (hey, it did for Civ4!) but I still get the same results. I might try running the COM file on my old Win95 computer and moving the new civ exe over.
