The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)
Multiplayer (direct ip connect, haven't tried gamespy or the like)
What does not
The Oesterbeek Landing Zone map seem to hang randomly in multiplayer. I was able to complete it by restarting.
Some menus flicker a lot. (multiplayer connect and options) Not tested without Compiz running.
What was not tested
Game was tested with patch 2.0b
Installing works fine both from CD and ISO. Make sure you set the drives in winecfg properly. There are some graphic issues, with installer but imo it's usable. There seems to be a problem RUNNING from an ISO though. So use your scratched retail disc instead. There's a fix for the "install drive is not a CD-ROM, please re-install from a CD-ROM" error, scroll down.
Do NOT install DirectX or DirectPlay, this may destroy your wine-installation.
Apply the 2.0b patch, it can be run from anywhere.
To get multiplayer working, place www.thehandofagony.com/alex/dll/dpnsvr.exe and the DLLs in this archive www.thehandofagony.com/alex/dll/dplaydlls-win98se.tar.bz2 in Wine's windows/system32 directory. Then, start winecfg and add dll overrides (native, builtin) for the following DLLs: dplayx, dpnet, dpnhpast and dpwsockx
Make sure you've set /etc/hosts properly aswell. See FAQ 6.24.
Some people (including me) get an "Unable to get vid interface" error when trying to start the game. You can disable videos by typing 'wine regedit' in a terminal. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Mircrosoft Games/Close Combat/2.00 and change the PlayVideos key from 01 00 00 00 to 00 00 00 00.
Some people, notably when installing from an ISO get the error "install drive is not a CD-ROM, please re-install from a CD-ROM"
this can be fixed in a similar fashion. Type 'wine regedit' in a terminal. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Mircrosoft Games/Close Combat/2.00 and change the key "InstalledFrom" to whatever drive your cdrom is set to in winecfg.
