I copied the a Photoshop CS3 installed files from windows XP program files, including the C:/program files/common files/adobe folder into the wine c:/program files... works 100%
Multiple apps need separate msi custom action server process due to COM/MTA and/or isolation issues (Adobe CS3/CS4, Flash, Windows SDK 2008, Strawberry Perl)
How To succesfully Install Photoshop CS3 (XP dlls required)
First off: don't expect this to work well. Wine does not yet support Photoshop CS3. Only read these instructions if you feel like fiddling around, not if you expect to get a working Photoshop.
OK, now that you know that Wine does not yet fully support Photoshop CS3, here's how I got it to install and run today with wine-1.1.6:
Install Photoshop CS3 as normal by running its Setup.exe.
Run Photoshop CS3 as normal, e.g.
$ cd .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Adobe/Adobe\ Photoshop\ CS3
$ wine Photoshop.exe
That's it! It runs very slowly, though. Hats off to Jacek for fixing the installer!
I have had problems with the app's license manager giving up because the app was running too slowly. When this happens, you have to remove ~/.wine and reinstall.
ALT-Click keybinding and Compiz
Thanks to earther for the following email:
I was having problems with the Photoshop 7 ALT-Click keybinding in a new Debian install running Compiz. I did the standard window manager tweak but it still didn't work properly. Then I discovered an ALT-Click keybinding in the Compiz Window Management > Move Window > Initiate Window Move settings. I changed it to 'super' like in Gnome window management and voila, it seemed to get it working again in Photoshop. You might want to add that bit of info to the clone tool info on the Photoshop 7 page.

Ok I have downloaded PS CS3 and got a folder with the Photoshop.exe file in it along with a CSDATA folder!! lol Now I have put all the necessary files in the right place now here's the prob, I have 2 folders in the CSDATA folder called, 1000000b00002i and 1000000600002i and I'm not sure where 2 put them at!! lol There is 1 file in each folder 1 is rundll32.exe and another svchost.exe (So there's no confusion it goes: 1000000b00002i > rundll32.exe and 1000000600002i > svchost.exe) I'm not sure where 2 put these folders/files at, also I have 3 other files called: Registry.rw.lck, Registry.rw.tvr, and Registry.rw.backup (Not in any folders just in the ROOT directory of CSDATA) and have no idea where 2 add these!! lol

with the help of #winehq on freenode I was able to get cs3 installed and partially working, My test data has already been submitted. It wasnt as great as you'd think, but its better than where I was previously (without photoshop, or with it on a vm)
Its a bit slow, icons dont show etc, but it will work if you really want it that bad. I gave some notes in my test data, however if you want to read the full 'how I did it' checkout my blog at blog.chriswalker.devnetonline.net/

I can't find the patch, I have installed both gecko and gdiplus, but the url for the patch seems to be dead, anyone know where i can get the patch from?

Anyone else care to comment on how well this works? I'm having issues and debating on working out the bugs or not. We all appreciate any input and thanks for the work that has already been done!

Installs fine on Hardy, but then has issues with with various boxes for tools or brushes not showing up correctly, or disappearing from the main window. Could be interference from Compiz, but I don't think so - tried also in regular KDE
