16179 QIP: flashing chat window disappears if it is not on the current desktop. UNCONFIRMED View

HOWTO

You will need the winbind-Package. If you use Distros like Ubuntu and Debian you can simply install it with:

"sudo aptitude install winbind"

It's also recommended not to use animated Smilies.

HOWTO

1. Install winbind (ntlm_auth is required).

2. Download and launch the installer with wine.

3. Go to your QIP-Directory (should be ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ FIles/QIP)

4. Open current.cfg in your "Skins"-Directory

5. Replace the number "1" to 0

6. Start qip (e.g. wine C:\\Program\ FIles\\QIP\\qip.exe)

note: Instead of changing your (Skin-)config you can also try to start qip with the "/oldgif"-Parameter:

wine "C:\Program Files\QIP\qip.exe /oldgif"

QIP2005 needs samba+winbind to start. And "/oldgif" too. :-)

Platinum?
by Martin Köhler on Thursday April 10th 2008, 15:41
I don't think that this version is really "platinum" because it requires Samba..

for QIP build 8020 to work install winbind and then launch QIP with the /oldgif parameter

wine /path/to/qip /oldgif

(tested for Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon and Hardy Heron 8.04 Alpha 4)

I use CrossOverPRO6 and QIP 8020 for Mandriva 2007 Spring and everything is OK. With Wine HQ 9.39 you can use QIP 8000 or older. You must add "/oldgif" makre after qip location (wine //qip.exe /oldgif). It order QIP don't use IE drive for animated smiles.

ntlm_auth needed to run QIP 8010
by Jakub Adam on Thursday May 10th 2007, 4:50
Version 8010 of QIP runs just fine in wine, you only need ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 executable as is written in error dump. This program is a part of samba utils. Install Samba 3.0.25 or higher (sources can be found at us1.samba.org/samba) and add directory where ntlm_auth resides to your PATH. Enjoy.
