What works

Everything.

Initially I used an older full installer (LcInstallUSA_090313.exe from fileplanet).  This installed fine, but under wine 1.3.36 the launcher crashed on start, under 1.4-rc1 it started, and about 2/3 of the way through the update, it said "Patch File is crashed. Must run program again".

I started over with a more recent installer (lastchaos_us_installer_20110803.exe from Atmoic Gamer).  It installed fine, started the launcher, it updated, and upon clicking start, it gave the error "This file can not be run by itself".

I had to set the windows version to Windows 98.  This allowed the patcher to truly finish (got a pop-up saying "Update is completed"), after which I was able to start/play the game.

What does not
Installer from the games website (Akamai).

What was not tested
Extended gameplay, interacting with other players.

Cannot install Akamai
by wineuser on Saturday May 11th 2013, 6:52
i created a fresh prefix and want to install last chaos in it. all i get is this: i.imgur.com/KsngtKw.png

the line 'err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution' seems to be NOT the problem, because i installed samba and the error popup still appeared.

thanks for helping

Online installer doesn't work
by digitalillusion on Thursday March 4th 2010, 9:48
The online installed given at the official site doesn't work.
It doesn't even start downloading.
It freezes at 80% in initialization

Fortunately, the offline installer works fine.
I got it from:

download.mmosite.com/pages.php?gameid=235

Send error? message at startup
by Sven Stähs on Monday January 4th 2010, 5:27
Hi,

using wine 1.1.35
on eeepc 900A
with ubuntu 9.10 32Bit netbook edition,
video Card is Intel 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller,
I installed LC fine and updated via launcher without problems.
But after clicking start button I get a black window named "loading..." and a question box asking "Send Error Report? Yes/No".

Terminal shows this (fixmes discarded):
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 800x500x0 @0! (desktop)

Try adjusting the vblank_mode configuration parameter.

After clicking "No" in that box, application ends with this message:

Unhandled exception: C++ exception(object = 0x0033fab4, type = 0x1054ceec) in 32-bit code (0x7b8439c2).

Followed by dumps.

I read all comments and related Bugs without success (someone said it just won't work on 32Bit-machines). Has there been any progress?

Tried it with PlayOnLinux as well, but again without success.

Thanks in advance, if there's anything I should post, please tell me.

Bye, Stähs

1.1 works
by Taylor on Friday June 27th 2008, 22:39
1.1 works.
Special thanks to N. Spohrer for finding the buggy patch and to Alexandre Julliard for fixing the bug for us.
If there isn't a 1.1 binary for you it's pretty simple to compile, only took 12 mins on this old athlon 3500+ 1.5MB DDR.
took 6 mins on my Core 2 duo laptop ( with compiler optimizing turned off and conformance testing disabled)

Out of Town
by Taylor on Thursday April 24th 2008, 19:36
Howdy,
I'll be sleeping in the woods for AT the next couple of weeks, so I won't be able to maintain much. If anyone wants to step up and add themselves as another maintainer please do so. I just took it 'cause no one else did and the description was pretty far out of date. I'll try to help yall if I can but I won't be near a computer for a couple weeks.

Thank you for those that have posted lately. I am having trouble repeating the errors many of you have posted. Right now I am still using 9.56 but I will try other versions soon. It would be of great help if any of you encounter errors that you post them, and if anyone has overcome these errors that they share how they fixed them. Thanks, -Taylor

your question
by Ricky on Wednesday March 26th 2008, 23:00
You don't necessarily need to increase the screen resolution, it seemed to be a bit slower for me anyway when I made it full screen. But I forgot to mention that I only got last chaos to work in Wine version .9.55, I don't know what distribution you are using but you can download older versions from here also. I tried updating wine to .9.58 but as you said in that version you just get the flashing black screen. So uninstall the old wine, and download version .9.55 and then run the game, and just click around a bit on the virtual desktop, and it should work. At times it does not work, and you may think its not gonna work, just keep reopening it and try it a few times. Once it opens it works pretty well.

Game Working
by Ricky on Monday March 24th 2008, 15:53
Yes after a few days, I did manage to get the game to work without any help from the maintainer but anyways. When you load the game and have it patched and everything, and click connect or start game, keep clicking around on the virtual wine desktop, otherwise the game will not load. I tried this time and time again, and the game only loads 99% of the time when I keep clicking on the virtual desktop after I click start game. The game does have some lag issues, and that is not wine's fault, it is because the people that run the game, have very crappy servers. My computer is an AMDx2 with 1Gb of ram, and it still becomes unresponsive for about a minute sometimes. But for the most part the game is great, almost lev 10 with my titan :)

Game not loading
by Ricky on Saturday March 22nd 2008, 16:28
I did everything that you said. I configured wine to run as windows xp, i put the resolution of the virtual desktop on 1024 x 768 but the game still don't work. I mean the screen where it checks for updates and such loads, it updated the game already, so the game is up to date. But when i click enter the game, the screen goes away, then 3 seconds later a black box flashes on the virtual desktop like its about to load but then it goes away and wine closes. I have no idea why its not working. I even tried downgrading my wine to version 9.56 because that is the one you tested it on. But is still didn't work. I am using kubuntu gutsy 7.10.

I did some searching around and I found a website, which said something about making a script for it or something.

Look below.

Script for Last Chaos
#!/bin/bash
if [ "$PLAYONLINUX" = "" ]

Latest wine?
by Taylor on Wednesday March 19th 2008, 21:48
The latest version of wine I have used is 9.56. If you are getting wine from ubuntu's synaptic you are probably getting a really old version of wine. Go to the wine download page("Get wine now"), click ubuntu, then go to the archive page on the bottom like you are getting an old version. It's odd but the latest version is usually right there in the archive. This is because ubuntu likes to make sure everything is stable before they put new versions in the repositories, and wine like to put out new versions every other week, so ubuntu doesn't keep up.
Check your wine version with the command "wine --version" If it's not what you were expecting you can do "sudo apt-get remove wine" the get the latest package off the archive page. If you compiled wine yourself and want to remove it you have to go into the folder you compiled in and do "make uninstall". I have never done the git method so don't ask me how to get rid of that version.

Trying to make this work
by Julie on Wednesday March 19th 2008, 14:18
Brand new to Ubuntu (or linux, for that matter) and trying to get Last Chaos to play on my machine. I just got the drivers set up for the machine (OS was set up a couple days ago), got Wine installed, got the game installed.

The start pagelet will load and update to the most recent patch, but the top window with news updates shows white, and when I click start the application 'ends', for lack of a better term. The windowlet closes and you hear nothing from Last Chaos again except the occasional in game 'send error report' window.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it?

9.56
by Taylor on Thursday March 13th 2008, 21:27
I have gotten LC to install and run with no real hiccups on a Pentium 4 machine and an AMD 3500+ machine with similar results. The only lag I encounter on either machine is when the game finishes loading it lags for a second, but it is nothing larger than the native windows install does. Please be careful saying that the game lags if it is not worse than a windows install on the same machine. I have only tested it on two machines so I can't say my tests are all inclusive, but as far as I can tell the game is fully playable with very few bugs.
In short, make sure it is the game and not your machine that lags, we don't want to scare people away because linux can make a pentium III come back from the grave.

To get it to work
by Taylor on Monday February 11th 2008, 15:40
First you need this:

www.rapidshare.com/files/67443893/GMclient.zip.html

Then install the game with wine version 9.52. You may have to uninstall your current version.
For ubuntu users you can get all the versions (Even the latest ones so you dont have to wait for the repo's) on the "Archive" page as if you were downloading an older version from ubuntu. In other words when 9.55 comes out you can go to the archive page and get it instead of compiling it yourself or waiting for the repository.
So after you install it with 9.52 then replace the dll with the one you just downloaded. Then get 9.54 from the archive and install it (you have to uninstall 9.52). Then configure wine for windows XP and have it emulate a virtual desktop for 1024 x 768 Resolution. After that It should work, you may have to try running it a few times before it kicks over (Not sure why it works some times and doesnt on other times) and you do have to wait a little bit while staring at a blank screen, but it ought to work.
