What works

comparing to my previous report after the upgrade to wine 1.10 the program runs even with the compiz activated.

To sum it up.

Google Sketchup installs, you need to modify two registers by hand.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\GLConfig\Display\HW_OK change the value to 1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\SnappyInstructor\show set to 0

Everything I have tested works.

What does not
If you do not deactivate compiz before using Skechup, the interface has certain lag. It is slow. But it does not crash.

What was not tested
cooperation with google earth was not tested

Gold, 'cept it does not work
by Danniel on Sunday March 28th 2010, 18:42
How come it can be rated gold if it is not even able to save the work? What's its use then? It's not a video game, you know, it's not like you can "play" but you just can't "save the level".

sketchup crashes after disabling dri
by Daniel Schmitt on Sunday January 18th 2009, 4:39
hi,
I have an Intel Mobile 945GME Express. Sektchup seems to work after disabling DRI but when I try to choose more Objects by using the cursor function and holding tho mousebutton Sketchup crashes.
Does anyone have an idea to fix that problem?
Thank you for your replies.

Daniel

quick fix DRI
by Bram on Saturday October 4th 2008, 15:14
the application doesn't work with an intel graphic device and DRI enabled. If you don't want to disable DRI in your xorg.conf, you can start a second X session:

ctrl-alt-F1 (switch to first console)
log on
startx -- :1

this will start a second X session. Only one X session can have DRI enabled so the new one doesn't come with DRI. To switch between the two X session use ctrl-alt-F7 or F8 (if you are not using an atypical linux distro).

wine su2kt3 exporter fix
by po3z on Tuesday September 9th 2008, 11:26
There is a simplebug fix for the ones running sketchup under wine. Make sure u before you cp the su2kt3.rb and the plugins folder into the sketchup folder you have changed the line endings of the su2kt3.rb to the unix line ending. This should do the trick

Installer no longer works?
by Evil on Tuesday August 5th 2008, 9:53
I just tested this with wine-1.1.2 on Intrepid, and got this error from the installer almost immediately after the InstallShield wizard starts.

Error Code: -5009 : 0x8002802b
Error Information:

>Ctor\ObjectWrapper.cpp (402)

Since I never tried it before, I'm not sure if this is a Wine regression, or because Google updated the installer.

Black Screen
by Andrew Meades on Sunday August 3rd 2008, 16:07
How do you fix the black screen problem. Do I need to download some drivers or turn off compiz? I believe my computer's video card is
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03)
I am using Hardy and have Wine 1.1.2 installed.

Could someone please provide an easy to follow description to solve this problem because I still have lots to learn about computers.

Runs OK
by Frank on Friday June 20th 2008, 2:35
Runs OK with my nvidia graphics card (Hardy Heron, Wine 1.0 official). No menu problems at all. The only serious problem is that any dialog which requires a confirmation can cause sketchup to crash and ask for a bugsplat report, this happens whether you click ok or cancel in the dialog, but doesn't "always happen", which is strange.

Example... choosing "save" never results in a crash, but clicking either save or cancel in the dialog that comes up when you click "save as" can cause a crash. Other dialogs this happens with are the export dialogs, among others.

Since this seems dialog related, more specifically making a final confirmation in a dialog, maybe someone would have advice on how to stabilize this?

It is usable-ish because you can still make a model, but the dialog issue does kill it somewhat.

As far as installation goes, when I first tried to install and run it, I kept getting an error saying "choosepixelformat". What I did differently was to first install sketchup, but not run it. Used wine's uninstall software and uninstalled both of the sketchup items there. Then I reinstalled sketchup and it ran without any immediate errors. This was using the free sketchup version, not pro.

I have yet to test ruby scripts.

Gecko
by Danniel on Thursday June 5th 2008, 10:06
It asks for Gecko. But does it refer to the Windows or to the Linux one? Iceweasel/firefox counts as Gecko, or would it have to be Gecko itself?

Black screen?
by FELA on Friday April 18th 2008, 4:26
[ Wine 0.9.58 + Sketchup 6.4.112 + Fedora8 ]

Installation works fine, gecko installed and works fine. I can browse with the embedded browser but crashes many times. I think everything works but I cannot see anything but black screen and my pencil! If I draw something, CPU begins working but I can't see anything on the window, only black everywhere...
I can open saved files and if I put the cursor on particular points, such as angles, edges, little descriptions appear ("write on surface", and stuff). So objects are there.

I'm running on ATI fglrx driver.

OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 SE
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7412 Release

[ OpenGL works fine for me - Googleearth, for example. ]

Program crashes if I try to toggle off Hardware Acceleration in the Preferences dialog.

Anybody experienced the same or similar problem?

sketchup on wine 0.9.58
by xwantheavne on Friday April 4th 2008, 21:45
I'm using sketchup 6.4 version on ubuntu studio 7.1 with wine 0.9.58.
Most of the function works, the warehouse works. But most of the pliugins can't be loaded. I use indigo render for rendering, but the seketchup2indigo plugin cant be load. Also the sketchup export to kmz file dont work, it will cause the sketchup crash. Dose anyone has solve these problems?

Shuts Down on Startup
by dassouki on Friday March 28th 2008, 7:38
If you followed the instructions correctly, and the software still manages to go Bazunk i.e. shuts down on you, then try the following:

1- $ wine regedit
2- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\SnappyInstructor
3- Change the show value to 0 (zero)

That worked for me.

Cannot start SketchUp with 0.9.58
by Bismark on Monday March 24th 2008, 17:54
When I try to run SketchUp the window outline appears and then immediately vanishes. I am using the fglrx driver with AIGLX and Compositing turned off on an amd64 system. If I disable DRI in my xorg.conf I can get Sketchup to appear but the drawing pane is black and unusable.

$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5250
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7412 FireGL Release

$ glxinfo| grep direct
direct rendering: Yes

$ env WINEPREFIX="/home/bismark/.wine" wine "C:\\Program Files\\Google\\Google SketchUp 6\\SketchUp.exe"
libGL error: drmMap of framebuffer failed (Cannot allocate memory)
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering

Wine 0.9.58 - Warehouse working
by E Peltzer on Saturday March 22nd 2008, 20:50
On Ubuntu Gutsy, Wine built from source, nearing full functionality. Everything has been working pretty well, except that previously I got errors in the component 'browser' window when trying to open up the Google Warehouse. Now this seems to be working pretty well. I have downloaded components directly into an open model with no problems. Don't know if it's required, but I have IES4Linux (browser) installed separately.

I believe the 3D accel. is not as fast as on Windows. It's much better than having no accel. on Windows though, so something is happening, and it's quite usable, it's just that movements and view changes are not quite as fluid.

This is nearing a Gold rating for me at this point.

same here on wine 9.57 - this should be marked as Garbage not silver.

Using Nvidia restricted drivers (Geforce MX) built from "envy" - not using any desktop effects but have used the suggested registry changes

Working better on Ubuntu Gutsy with Wine 0.9.56
by E Peltzer on Sunday February 24th 2008, 16:11
Sketchup is much improved with .56. The last few Wine versions previous to this, the program was only semi-usable with frequent crashes. The window would not fill the whole available display area. Often the pointer's affected area was off by a hundred pixels and did not coincide with the target it was pointing at. Program would not remember previous files edited during last session or shortcuts/preferences modifications. This all seems to be fixed now.

I had a couple of crashes the first couple of times I used the program. For some reason it seem fairly stable now. Web connected functions like retrieving components from online still doesn't work, 'no html rendering'. Not a big deal for me. Tested most drawing/editing/component/print-preview/printing/jpg-export functions etc seem to work fine.

I had been forced to go back to VirtualBox with Sketchup for stability but there is no 3D accel that way. I think I should now be able to return to using Wine with decent accel. This program is probably a solid 'bronze' level now for me.

Working, mostly, in Kubuntu 7.10 with Wine 0.9.55
by Martin Metke on Saturday February 23rd 2008, 17:56
I've entered a test and will add some screen shots for this build, but the main points are these:

1. SketchUp 6 works for me with the following registry settings:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\GLConfig\Display]
"FIRST_TIME"=dword:00000000
"HW_OK"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\Google SketchUp TOTD]
"HelpPage"="0"
"ShowOnStartUp"="\"false\""

2. The OpenGL window appears to be offset from the main window pane position, but no amount of registry tweaking appears to resolve this issue. Unless you resize the main window pain to just contain the actual OpenGL window, you'll get a section of graphical "ghosts" or copies on the bottom and left of the actual display, and your cursor will also be offset.

RE: Printing or Export and 0.9.53 status
by Thierry on Monday January 28th 2008, 14:23
Same here.
I have these logs:
fixme:wgl:X11DRV_wglChoosePixelFormatARB unused pfAttribFList
fixme:wgl:ConvertAttribWGLtoGLX unsupported 2007 WGL Attribute
...
Can you tell us if you have an Intel 915GM ?
I think full OpenGL is not possible on this graphics card.
Trying to disable OpenGL in sketchup preferences causes a crash.
I use the "intel" driver from Xorg:
OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 915GM 20061017 x86/MMX/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 7.0.2

Do Not Uninstall Manually
by Jared Warren on Thursday January 10th 2008, 15:33
Deleting the files and registry entries associated with SketchUp will cause the installer to crash when attempting to reinstall - you must use automatic uninstall.

Got it working well with 0.40!!!
by Mathias Smith on Thursday November 15th 2007, 16:19
Using aksels patch and instructions, I got Sketchup 6 working well, except that it would crash when saving before writing the file!

It was complaining about _CheckNotSysLevel holding lock at level 3. This is probably a big wine-no-no, but I just went into dlls/kernel32/syslevel.c and commented out the body of the VOID WINAPI _CheckNotSysLevel(SYSLEVEL *lock) method. Then, recompiled and reinstalled, and now Sketchup is saving files!

I get a bunch of these errors to the terminal while saving in sketchup:
err:syslevel:_EnterSysLevel (0x7ec12d40, level 2): Holding 0x7eaffb80, level 3. Expect deadlock!

But, everything appears to save correctly and work, so I'm happy!
