Upgrading Wine

Upgrading Wine deletes necessary registry entries. This can be avoided by running wineboot after the upgrade, and before running SlingPlayer.

You can also disable this by running

echo disabled > ~/.wine/.update-timestamp

HOWTO

Tested in Ubuntu 12.04 under Wine 1.5.12.

  1. Install winetricks.
  2. Run WINEARCH=win32 winetricks -q quartz gdiplus
  3. Copy a native 32-bit qcap.dll to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32
  4. Add a native override for qcap to winecfg.
  5. Install SlingPlayer as normal.
  6. Run echo disabled > ~/.wine/.update-timestamp
  7. Run SlingPlayer.

You should now have a working SlingPlayer!

Note: A number of new bugs occur in Wine 1.5.13+. It is recommended to hold on to 1.5.12 to run this application.
