can't even install
by Lith Maethor on Saturday November 14th 2009, 11:52
on gentoo with wine 1.1.32 and trying to install Earth 2160 (UK version 1.30) ...mounting the cd, running the autorun.exe... and when i try to install from there, it gives me the following message and craps out

"Could not initialise installation. System DLLs corrupt or missing. No access to memory location."

running Setup.exe directly gives exact same result

Got multiplayer working
by Lisa Denia on Thursday April 2nd 2009, 19:54
Multiplayer won't work out of the box, but you can get it working.
Since Wine doesn't have a good DirectPlay implementation, you need to use Microsofts one.
You'll need winetricks to install DirectX. Install DirectX using:
$ winetricks directx9

Be sure your hostname(get it by executing 'hostname') will be resolved to your NICs IP adress, especially NOT 127.0.0.1. Otherwise you won't be able to host new games. Double check it in /etc/hosts.

Tested on Wine 1.1.18, winetricks 20090117 using DirectX from directx_nov2008_redist.exe.
