What works

MYOB needs Internet Explorer to be installed to run so I install ies4linux, downloaded and ran the installer.

The next problem is that it uses JRE 1.4.2. In order to get it to run you need to follow the instructions the get JRE to run by specifying nt40 emulation for MYOB.exe.

For some reason it get installed in:

Program Files/Your Company Name/Your Product Name/MYOB.exe'

and ignores the directory specified during the install.

It all seems to work as far as I can tell.

What does not
Can't find anything yet.

What was not tested
Look around menus and added a couple of transactions. Not fully tested.

Worked well overall out of the box!
by Stuart Gow on Wednesday July 30th 2008, 20:36
I just installed it thru Wine from a USB stick copy of the Windows disk and it worked out of the box!

One wee hiccup is I can't get it to print yet. Something to do with Wine-CUPS (too tech for me yet!).

(and the tab problem highlighted elsewhere but the Alt solution works perfectly)

But the bottom line is that this was the only program stopping me going fully over to Ubuntu. Now I am READY!

M-Powered Service Causing Errors?
by Nick Dowman on Tuesday May 1st 2007, 10:47
Using:
- Wine 0.9.36
- Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn)
- J2RE 1.4.2_14-b05 (installed for Wine)
- ies4linux installed (IE 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0)
- MYOB Accounting Plus OEM v16 (Australian)

I can run MYOB, but when I try to open an existing MYOB data file or the sample MYOB data file I get the following error:

"Error 9004 was encountered when opening the M-Powered Services Centre data file. Please contact MYOB M-Powered Service Support for details."

I also get the same error when I click on the "Command Centre" or "Setup Assistant" buttons at the end of the "New Company File Assistant" process.

I installed MYOB the following way:

I first installed MYOB on a WinXP machine and then copied the C:\myob16 directory to ~/.wine/drive_c/. I then made sure that all of the following files were available in both ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system/ and ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/

- mfc42.dll
- msvcp60.dll
- gdiplus.dll
- mfcoleui.dll

There is nothing that I can find on the Web or on MYOB Australia's Support Notes system to explain exactly what error 9004 is.
