New Problems and old video problem
by Marc on Wednesday September 28th 2011, 20:21
I am writing to inform that there are still some problems with running the game Sacred. With wine 1.3.14, I can't play cinematics. If I install the recommended .dlls, then the game crashes after the beginning movie ("wine has encountered a serious error and needs to close"). This is both with and without the "video compatibility" check. If I use wine 1.3.28, the sound cuts out on the menu screen, and then the game freezes on the loading screen. Thus I cannot check to see if the game crashes after the beginning movie with this version. For the 1.3.14 verion w/ .dlls, I tried a test run to get a log file. This is the last thing in the log file -
SYSTEM_INTERRUPT_INFORMATION
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000080 at address 0x355714af (thread 003f), starting debugger...
XIO: fatal IO error 35 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":7902"
after 45 requests (43 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
Strangely, this is the same error for when I run it in wine 1.3.28 and it freezes on the loading screen. Maybe this is not the correct info but I'm not sure. So far for me the best option is to run the game without movies in 1.3.14. Unless someone has any ideas...
Playing with video playback disabled
by Mike Black on Sunday April 26th 2009, 22:16
As someone who likes to follow the story of the game, I was initially pretty disappointed that you have to play the game with video playback disabled to avoid freezing or crashing. However, the videos are regular wmv files so they can easily be viewed outside of the game.
Character can't move.
by mad cat on Thursday April 23rd 2009, 7:42
I installed the gold edition and the game starts fine, but the character can't move at all an all the items in the inventory are invisible. It is completely unplayable. I tried the game with older wine some time ago and it worked. Is there any solution for this ?
Here is the output

Sacred Underworld

Has anyone ever gotten this game to work? I'm using Ubuntu (Edgy) and Wine since 0.9.28 (currently 0.9.32)and I've always got the same errors, very similar to the ones listed here for gentoo. It installed fine, as far as I can tell, it starts to load, I get to the game loading graphic, then it shuts down. I tried launching it from the terminal, same scenario except I get a list errors? possibly, but I don't know how to interpret this message. Anyone have any good suggestions? I can post the whole terminal message, but I don't even know if anyone looks here. Thanx in advance.
