Additional Comments
I bought Sprocket's digital distribution.
I didn't need winetricks for the downloader, although I did download the DLLs recommended by the site (MS C/C++ runtime).
I've found two annoyances and workarounds for them. Still rating "platinum" because they somehow appear to be Ubuntu-specific (did not occur under Arch Linux x86_64).
(1) It won't run from the Applications menu b/c of wrong working directory. Instead I use a launcher script: cd "$HOME/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Sprocket/FF2" && exec wine Fillets2.exe
(2) The mouse pointer is invisible. Workaround: Use full-screen mode. When pointer is needed (i.e., on the map screen ;) ) Alt+Tab to another program. Fillets2 will stay on the screen, in a paused state; the cursor will now only disappear if held in place for a few seconds.
This works on every screen I've tried *except* the initial menu screen, which I find navigable anyway.
Admin note: rating changed to conform to the rating definitions. Test reports are specific to the system tested.
