Additional Comments

Installed the game from CD (version 1.4) then installed the patch (1.7).

The performance is equal to what I get with Windows XP on the same machine, even with all settings set to maximum quality.

There is a newer patch 1.7 here:
www.ufo-afterlight.com/others/ufo_afterlight_patch_1_7.zip

Along with other patch changes, there is also a small one for wine users: game's animated cursors are actually shown, if patches from bug 12248 are applied.

The game's code was made available to fans for modification - there's now a 1.6 patch that removes the copy protection and fixes some bugs. Good news!

Simple howto
by Reco on Tuesday October 2nd 2007, 11:12
1. Make sure that wine's version higher than 0.9.43. For older versions see closed bug 8037 for details.
2. Make sure wine is configured to use GLSL. See wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys for details.
3. Search the game's readme for the list of supported video cards. If yours is not there - it is VERY likely that you'll see only game's main menu.
4. In-game shaders should be set to 'low'. 'Scenery backgrounds' should be disabled.

cursor solution
by zir0n on Wednesday September 26th 2007, 15:52
I found out how to view the x cursor since the in game cursor won't show. type winecfg in a terminal and under the Graphics tab, deselect the second box that allows the window manager to control the windows. try running it again, if you see a cursor but its the one to resize windows, move your cursor off the top of the window and back in. From here I was able to set up the options, but when i tried to start a new game i got an error. I uninstalled it in frustration and forgot to record what it was. I am using Fiesty with wine installed from the automatix repos.

cursor problems

This game installs fine, but when you run it, there is no cursor. In the above section it says that while you run it in a window the x cursor should be visible, but in my case its not. I'm running ubuntu Fiesty, if that helps anyone.

"What does not

Mouse cursor in game menu is still invisible. If game runs in window, X cursor is visible, though. "

mouse problems

I have been able to play the game, but the mouse cursor not being visible in either fullscreen nor windowed mode is extremely annoying. any suggested fixes?
