HOWTO

-------- installation ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To install Xops you simply unzip the "xopso96.zip" in a folder in "Program Files"
(probably located in "/home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files").
You can name that folder "xops096", or whatever you like...

You have to run "config4xops05.exe" once, to configure the game (see below for more details),
and then you can run "xops096t.exe" (or xops096.exe) to play the game.

So far...

Please read the whole HOWTO, before installing and running X Operations.
It will save you time and effort when facing some minor problems.

The best way to start Xops, is through the winefile window (wine's File Manager).

-------- commands ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can simply start Xoperations, from a console, with the following command...

cd /to/where/xops096t/is/
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3dxof" wine xops096t.exe

--------- important ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- graphics

. Allow DirectX apps to... yes/no

. Allow the window manager... yes/no

+ xops096t.exe problems

- running Xoperations in a window, consumes a lot of computer resources

- using keys like Print Screen, or F12, if they are globally assigned to another application, will pause Xops

- if Xops pauses, just do "left mouse click" and you can resume the game

- in the extreme case Xops doesn't quit with Esc, you'll have to use Alt+Ctr+Esc (=kill)

- some japanese font characters don't appear correctly

- the game uses more CPU in Linux than in Microsoft Windows

+ config4xops05.exe problems (it configures the game)(you will have to use it at least once, before you play Xops for the first time)

- if you use "winefile", and click on it, it will work fine

- if you use "Konqueror" and click on it, it will seem to work, but when you click on "save", it will quit without saving the changes
