Thanks for testing 16bpp

Thanks for testing the 16bpp mode.
Interestingly uppon studying various people's logs. I found that depending some unknown variable the game crashes at one of two points, both during early initialization.
The first one comes up about half-way into the load, immediate after switching resolution. This produces an error when loading the security module into the kernel and silently quits for no reason.
The second version, is later on towards the middle of loading the textures.
I'm thinking the three possibilities are:
1. the failure to mention the installation of no-CD patches (a bad idea, as the logs would be invalid anyways due to accidental modifications in making these patches.)
2. having another game installed with a newer and (more) Wine-Compatible version of SafeDisk that is also compatible with the game binary.
3. there are two versions out there, one with a (more) compatible version of SafeDisk, one without.
I will be looking into how to eliminate 2 and 3.
In the case of 1, people should just say "doesn't work with no-CD patch either" if they tried and it fails, to prevent confusion, as often those patches will work on one version of Windows and not another, or on one version of the game and not another.
In the case of 2 and 3 I need to get a bunch of indicating factors that people can give. I will list this here, and in the primary bug for safe-disk copy protection. These will be gotten by using an exe/dll header examination tool on several of the binaries, and a list of other software sharing the same wine user installation.
As a note, do a quick backup of your .wine and/or wine-c directory on a regular basis (especially before updates and installs) in case of corruption so you can instantly return it to the way it was. This is particularly important with copy-protected software which CAN and sometimes WILL break other copy protection software on platforms it is not supported under. Remember, do as computer gurus say, not as they do: Backups are your friend.
On Tyny Me's report
by Robert Wm Ruedisueli on Thursday July 24th 2008, 23:14
I read the report, and it seems the issue may be the fact that he is using an X11 driver incapable of 16bpp mode. I can't tell this for certain, but the first error reports the inability to change modes to 16bpp. This could very well be the problem.
